Brilliant delivery! He definitely nails it. Thanks for sharing!
This is an interesting take. However, I simply disagree.
Admittedly I only watched the first 6 minutes today before I decided to watch some football. Will probably watch more later….I am sure I’ll agree with some later points and disagree with others.
My first note: I think it’s kind of wrong to say the novel concerning anal sex and with that kind of language be of the shelf at a middle school, and for that to be a paradigmatic example of the racism in banning books at school is a bit misleading. That book shouldn’t be in middle school, plain and simple.
I don’t think under any context that has a place in a middle school library as the kids won’t even know what much of the text means, and even with rave reviews and literary merit, the majority of the audience in that school is too young for such a text or topic.
I teach 4 “banned” books in my course and have college students read, research, and write an analytical essay over a one banned book (they choose a list of 72 banned texts across America) One of my favorite texts for students to choose is Alice Walker’s “The Color Purple,”so I’m not averse to using banned texts. Still, for anyone to think that should be on the shelf for any 7th grader to just grab….I would say you are mistaken and there is no argument to sway me from that, not even the “we read to know we are not alone” mantra.
And my last point for a little while. I think people misunderstand what the term banned books mean. Even some the most challenged books in America have fewer than 100 ban attempts across the country in its history. It is a reason many of my college credit seniors struggle with research when looking for numerous recent challenges. Even the most commonly banned books aren’t done so by a majority of schools. It happens on an isolated basis. Do I agree with it? Not the majority of them. Still, far too many people act like these bans are commonplace and widespread across the country. For the most part, they aren’t. Though…they are growing which is scary in many ways.
Still, most school and libraries do a good job at deciding what to add for an age appropriate section based on their audience. Most bans and challenges occur when there is a grey area on material and age of the audience. And it is an important discussion to have.
After watching the video, I am not dissuaded in my belief that the so-called progressives of this country are ruining the educational system.
YES!! Both parties are screwing it up!! I’m a libertarian but have generally supported Dems over GOP when it comes to education. But the last 5 years? Nah the Dems suck too. It really is up to us to teach children HOW to think NOT what to think
That is your opinion.
You live in California. Texas school Boards are not attacking the public.
BS
One sided. This is also one sided. Watch both and see what one actually has more data to back up their claims.

This is great. Thank you for sharing this.
This was a really good read. thank you for sharing this.
In the first 3 minutes, you can tell this lady is full of shit. Nice American flag in the background to pretend to be doing this for patriotic reasons.
This is not about the original video.
Looks like typical leftist propaganda that makes a lot of spurious claims about Republicans. I'm not watching the video, but any time I see stupidity like, "The GOP wants to abolish public education," I know I'm looking at a stack of liberal garbage.
And, no. I'm not a Republican or a Trump supporter.

The federal DOE doesn’t set local curricula. Its primary functions are providing funding for school districts and ensuring equal access by preventing discrimination. These are things that reactionaries tend not to support.
I'll check this out. Thanks for sharing.
Not really a fan of this video. So I respectfully disagree.
