Why would I do that when there is a hotel bar with alcohol?
In some situations, eventually:
alcohol ——-> crying anyways.
The guys are just too embarrassed to speak up...
^ case in point
Cry about what? We're not performing heart surgery.
Definitely in the shower. My whole life the shower has been my crying zone haha.
I’ve gotten in my rental car and just screamed at the top of my lungs before, seems to help
Might be more fun to just smash it into a wall. I mean it’s insured, right?
Haven’t cried... my split is more like 50% of the time I’m fine, 35% stressed, 10% fuck this shit, and 5% job searching 🤗
People process emotions differently. It’s OK to cry. It’s OK not to cry.
I would encourage you to give some thought as to what’s driving the you to tears. That’s not a great way to live and something is probably off. Letting it fester will likely lead to a deeper emotional or psychological issue down the road
Um, no. It feels like it might be time to reassess whether consulting is a good fit if it’s bringing you to tears regularly
Yup 🙋🏻♂️ Wouldn’t say regularly tho
Will second this. Has happened three times in 2 years at BCG and was never even close at any other point in my 6 years elsewhere including another consulting firm with long hours.
Guy here and yes I’ve cried probably 3-4 times. I get everyone’s point about us “not performing heart surgery” but crying isn’t meant to be a rational process, it’s a spontaneous outlet due to intense emotion, and I think it’s very common (and perhaps expected) for this job to elicit strong emotional responses on occasion primarily due to stress... even if our job isn’t world changing.
Agree with S3, notwithstanding my experience above. It’s a form of emotional outlet. However, perspectives can change those emotions in ways that one would prefer. Some prefer to cry, some don’t. Both are entitled to their choices
Never cried bc of work, that’s reserved for when loved ones pass on, but have definitely hit walls, yelled into a pillow, and tried to lift more weight than I should at the gym
32M, last week was the first time in my whole career I went back to the hotel and cried.
Hope you feel better/ project is less stressful!
I'm sure guys do cry just as our women do. Putting gender aside, nothing in our profession is worth crying over. We aren't saving lives, and it's all perception if you think we make a meaningful impact on society. Not worth crying over
what we forget - both girls and boys - that it’s not profession which make ya cry but the people’s behavior that affect us.
I’m a guy and yeah I cry regularly. My project blows and I hate the work so far
Thanks, I needed this.
No, I don't cry, it just makes me feel better about not getting into MBB 😂
I’m sorry you needed something to make you feel better about that.
I have cried once. Was in a 2 week delivery stretch where multiple people on team got too sick to work and I was like working 16 hour days. I remember one morning just crying in the shower being like 'I could just quit!' thankfully I've never had a week similar
16? whoa!!!!
Yep 🙋🏼♂️ a few times as the plane was taking off
Yup, def also done that. Only weird that one time when the FA asked if everything was alright... boy, what a ride ...
I cried a little today at my wife’s therapist when we were discussing how she will handle my impending death. Only sharing with you guys so you please start putting these work things into perspective - seriously it’s not so important.
Oh dear - I am so sorry for both of you and your family/friends.
Guy here, think its ok to let tears run if it happens naturally. Folks process stress differently. I tend to order tons of good food (with extra guilty desert) when go to bed early when i am stressed out
Slalom whats so funny?
Definitely has happened. But usually when working past midnight for too many nights in a row feeling overwhelmed due to too much work and not knowing how to get through it all and not being able to hand it off.
The lesson I learned is that you must ask your manager for help, either with more resources or pushing the deadline.
FaceTimed with my 2 year old daughter...she said come home Daddy...balled my eyes out, packed my shit and left my hotel. Resigned a month later, never looked back.
Kudos to you
