Maybe I don’t understand, but just because they don’t want to help (I.e. take care of your baby), it doesn’t mean that baby won’t be loved. You will have to figure out the family dynamics and make some decisions, but the desire to help you with your kid is completely separate from how the baby will be loved by those people. My husband I had our kids with no support around us. My parents wanted to help, but lived many states away, so not really feasible. We made it work by getting a great daycare and babysitters when needed. We also made some decisions about our careers that we needed to. Maybe it is a cultural thing, but plenty of people have kids without family help and figure it out just fine. It just takes some planning and changing where changes need to be made.

With our baby ( due in 2 months ). My husband is freaking out that we don’t have any help , nicely asked parents and their answer is no - my parents don’t want to be near my husband and my MIL doesn’t want to be near as she is scared about travel ( which isn’t true ) . We have few friends in same city as us but everyone travels or busy with job or in a different point in life . I wish this Christmas that my baby is loved . Mom 🐠 here , can you all take a minute and wish/ pray for my baby . It’s after 5 years I am blessed with my baby, i want positive energy near her and I think moms understand better
Thank you

Sounds like you’re feeling lonely OP. You and tour husband need to realize that you (and the baby) are your immediate family now- not your parents or in-laws. How you feel about each other and treat your child is what matters; you don’t need the family drama now or ever. Make an effort to meet other families where you live and make an extended family of your choosing. You had to know when you got married that the extended family dynamic would be complicated- babies don’t make things easier!

Sorry you are feeling stressed. What type of help do you think you need? We had our first a continent away from friends and family and it was great. Babies are tough, but not really enough work for a whole hoard of people to manage. I made friends at prenatal yoga and in a birthing class. Once baby was here met a lot of other new moms. You will be great, and I honestly loved the peace and quiet. Also, your families sound like drama to me...best to avoid.

Good luck!!

Honestly what matters is that your husband spend the first weeks with you, managing a newborn with two pairs of hands is feasible and it helps you finding your rhythm. After that you can always find some moms groups, but really you’ll be fine. Better off than having some drama around you!

like

congratulations op! you are not alone, due in few weeks and decided not to invite parents or in-laws due to drama and self centered behavior... we know it will be hard but are sure there will be no negative energy or alternative intentions in our house when the focus needs to be our baby. Dm me if you would like to talk. Also, where are you located?

like

Hey OP, where are you located. There are many live-in/live-out nanny options available. Trust me they are saving you a drama! I think I and my spouse are most capable people on earth to handle and love our kid. Do not depend on parents because you don’t know the whole picture. I even had lot of conflicts with my own mom once the baby was born because it was also first time for her and I expected a lot of Info. That really build up the pressure on her. Lol. So, don’t feel lonely. Marriage dynamics is something you would have to work on one day and maybe baby in picture will help. But not now. If it helps, try to check within your network for nanny option. Most of the times temples also helps. At least they would not be arguing and they are more experienced than your mom or mom-in-law.

If you try to call me, or ping me to ask for call, or try to pull me into another call when I'm already IN a call and Microsoft Teams shows that - you're getting ignored until I actually have time to read your message. At most you're going to get a reminder to check my calendar for availability.

If I'm out of office, my status shows out of office, and you get my automated out of office notification - I absolutely will not be replying.

Anyone else sleep in a separate room from their partner with a newborn? Our baby really struggles to go back to sleep at night and since we split the nighttime feedings, trying to bring him back into our room ruins the short stretch of sleep the person who is not currently up is getting. Logistically this kind of makes sense to me but I’m a bit bummed sleeping away from my partner. Curious if other people did this to get through the NB period and if you have any advice.
