This job work hours and stress affecting my relationship and health also. Don’t even remember last time when I had a good sleep. Be well-work well just on papers not in real life

You need to make your own work life balance. Nobody is going to do it for you. If it's not the week running up to a deadline, go home when you need to. In my experience, nobody really cares about when you do you work, as long as it's done correctly and on time. If they do care then too bad. You won't get fired for working "only" 60ish hours a week. Would you rather get some sleep and take a lower rating? Or be miserable with a high rating?

What PWC 1 said. A lot of this pressure is what we put on ourselves to compete. There is a way to get your job done but not be the best in your class, and remain successful, while maintaining a tad bit of sanity.

like

Agree with this. I learned quickly I don’t want to be the “best.” They get rewarded with more work and it makes it harder to have any sanity

Easier said then done

Unless you have leadership who see that you have work-life balance then continue to staff you on more and more things

I think PwC is extremely flexible, you just need to be willing to speak up and take action for yourself.

Be well work well isn’t something handed to you. It’s permission to prioritize what you need to be well in the face of the work demand.

It’s not about working less it’s about working different and more sustainably. For example, there were plenty of times in my career I had bad habits like powering through to late night nonstop when I would have been better served taking a evening break and getting a quick workout in and coming back to work. Or even just stopping earlier, getting some decent sleep, and picking the work up earlier the next morning. Small things like that that I didn’t realize early in my career would make a huge difference and allow me to handle the demand better and my overall energy. It’s not the time you dedicate to something it’s the energy. It’s mostly the small things in working differently that I encourage you to try out and notice I never said working less.

@PwC2 You are wrong. Several years back, I worked so many hours that I developed perpetual headache for months after the project ended. Of course, none of my superiors cared enough to ask how I was feeling. My doctor was concerned and sent me to a neurologist. He said I was ok, but recommended a MRI (I knew what he was thinking). Luckily, nothing serious. A years later, the headache was back. My doctor suggested I took time off to rest. That was when I started getting bad snapshots which eventually led to leaving PwC. Now, I am feeling much better physically and emotionally.

How's Edelman NY? Getting hit up for Health which I've never done. It'll entail moving from advertising to PR/earned creative as they call it, and the Health category. Didn't sound like hard sell pharma, quite a bit of branded video content. I searched on FB, sounded mostly negative culturally (employee fired during Pride month, political, creatives better watch their backs, climate denier) with a few who love it. Figured I'll ask if anything's changed, if it's even worth ... considering.

I tried to handle a mental health issue on my own, but failed and am at a breaking point. My work is clearly suffering, but I have no medical history to request FMLA or accomodation. What should I do? Request unpaid, unprotected leave? Get a psychiatrist and try to treat now while hoping to improve at work? Something else? Before you ask: taking a week off to recharge won't work. Self-harm isn't an issue beyond risk of failed self-medication.

How do you handle a spouse who doesn’t understand the stress of being an attorney? I recently switched to a new field of law, still insurance defense, but an entirely different practice. I’ve tried to explain why I’m drained, but my spouse just doesn’t understand why I’m so mentally exhausted. I don’t know what else to do.

For data science roles, senior (L6) at AWS or post MBA level (specialist track, so same pay as generalists) at MBB? Comp is 20% higher at AWS just to start. But maybe looks like MBB has better upside - solid path to promotion to manager level with solid comp increase. But worse WLB and it's unclear to me whether MBB data scientist on the resume is up to par with big tech data scientist on the resume. Coming from big 4 so I am considering brand so I can do better with future resume screens.
