This just popped up on my social media feed. What is everyone’s thoughts about this? Did he do the right thing? What should a black person do when confronted w/ such racial/vulgar hostility? How do you balance being professional when confronted w/ blatant racism (whether you serve coffee or you’re a managing director at a hedge fund)?

Can’t throw hands as much as you want to. That old guy wins. He checks out of what are likely going to be the worst years of his life, while ruining the life of a young black man.

Bruh you can’t kill someone for any reason other than defense. Next time just snuff him and call it a day.

@SPM1 yeah there’s some other stuff I intentionally left out of the story, there were a number of racial incidents on the campus that year. So the tensions
in the air was already very, very high.
Legally he can't physically assault this man for being called a racial slur by him.

@M1 — makes sense, the only issue w/ any sort of legal defense is that this man already has prior felonies on his record. So the courts could use this to paint him as an aggressive/violent monster which is an excuse to throw the book at him. Especially in a state like Florida.

Personally, I would not throw hands … however, I am not everyone. It’s unfortunate all around but the old man shoulda kept his mouth shut. Some people are about that life. You will find out with the wrong one.
This was the wrong way to go about it. Refuse the man service and toss him out, and call the cops if he won't go. Cops will side with employees regardless of color most times when no violence is involved on the part of the employee
