I don’t do test days, mostly because my stupid brain won’t let me. So to accommodate my own dumbness I go on de-load cycles. So I’ll still go to the gym as usual, but cut the weight down to about 25% of what my working sets are, take longer time between sets, and generally just move.

Cont. - for example, today I’m in the city w/ my friends and they want to go to a fun pole-dancing class tonight. I think someone on here has gone to one before, so correct me if I’m wrong…but pole dancing mainly works out my upper body, arms, and core (right?) 😂 but today is technically a rest day. However I was bad and now feel exhausted this morning because I did an extra run earlier. Very proud of this run too because it showed lots of improvement. Anyway. I still REALLY wanna do this class because it looks fun!! We can go another time this week but it’s either on a training day OR a rest day. Should I just go? My friends won’t go without me so I’ll also feel bad stepping out.
Is pole-dancing (for fitness!!) ok since it works out a completely different area of my body than when I run? LOL 🤣

It’s okay to do active recovery days. I don’t like rest days either, but I try do a lower impact workout (yoga, Pilates) or recovery ride day once every week or two. I’m also not super focused on a physical goal right now though. If you’re really focused on a goal like building muscle I think you want to be mindful of giving your muscles time to recover and rebuild, either by doing a split program, deload strategy like Google mentioned, or having rest/active recovery days.
The other thing is to listen to your body. It you’re too sore to move or starting to feel run down, it’s time for a rest day.
