This month I won a few million after taxes in the lottery. My question is do I quit or keep working so I have something to do and have health insurance? Debating working until I decide what I want to do next? If it matters - 40 in Manhattan.

If this post is real, your name will/has been made public if you won in the state of NY...so first make sure you have good security wherever you live as people are crazy. A few million is not a lot for Manhattan, it could get you an apartment (or a house somewhere else) which means you can work for passion/self fulfillment and not be worried about income, so that’s super great! Don’t rush to quit your job, I’d give it more thought and work with a financial advisor and accountant. You can invest your $ and also start a business, should you choose to.

Best advice.

Take a sabbatical for 3 months if you can. Unwind. I promise you. You will get bored.

Take that money and invest into a safe vehicle, trust me there will be no shortage of people trying to help you with that.

Keep working, act like it isn't there. Maybe give yourself a 20-30k raise on top of your salary.

Play your cards right over the next 10 years and you could have a VERY cushy retirement.

Better yet, to teach business in college. Low stress. Ok money, summers off.

Congrats! Keep working (relatively stress free) until you figure out how to evolve into your newfound wealth and lifestyle.

I’d rather think about it in Bora Bora. If I was dying and I could return to one place in the world that’s the place. The fish, fruit, beaches and locals are amazing, but they didn’t invent the Bloody Mary. Don’t believe them! Did I mention they are French beaches! I wanted to throw dollar bills at all the topless women but I thought they might take offense. 😂🤣 you gotta go!!!!

Keep working but now you have the freedom of “I don’t have to be here” so you can take vacation days and sick days without pressure or guilt, you don’t have the pressure of performance reviews to sweat over an incremental promotion, and if you get bored or feel unfulfilled after time you can quit and pursue hobbies or other interests. You could also explore going part-time. Find a good financial advisor if you don’t already have one. Congrats!

I second this. And perversely, I do my best work when I have this attitude bc then all my attention is focused on the work, rather than worrying about performance or other things like that.

This is amazing! I would keep working “office space” style. Freedom to say whatever you think is best without any fear of losing your job or a bad review etc.

like

I’d keep working but it would have to be something I enjoy or a cause I care about. Health insurance would be key and it does give you something to do without being overworked or unreasonably stressed. Is there an organization you feel strongly about that you can participate in a professional manner?

I left my company because of toxic work culture and wanting to change industries. Now I’m having a tough time feeling like I’m finding a good fit. I think I want to do healthcare consulting, but I’m not sure if it’s better to do it at a smaller firm or a larger one (worried about being “too entry level” and being bored and bad work culture at larger companies). I feel like I’ve been looking and my standards need to change. Where do you recommend I look? Anyone willing to be a referral?

I work for a company with a pretty generous PTO policy and a mostly remote flex policy (4 days a month in office if within 75 miles of the building). One thing I’m wondering if there is a way to help us I get the “I’m taking a mental health day” call out regularly which causes a strain on the rest of the team because we were unable to prepare like we would with pre-planned PTO. Any ideas of things I can do as a manager to encourage pre-planned PTO instead of these call outs?

Did you feel better after having it removed and did you go on another form of BC?

I am not sure if this is the right bowl for this question…my therapist (who doesn’t take insurance) told me that he is willing to give me a receipt to submit for out of network claim. I've gotten multiple direct emails from a couple different Deloitte recruiters recently for Senior SAP HANA dev consultant roles. Curious if anyone here can speak to pay competitive-ness, WLB, other benefits, the HANA practice, etc. I'm a Manager at my current company, so definitely not happy about taking a "lower" title unless the benefits and WLB are worth it. I also am able to do a lot more than just HANA right now (BODS) and hope this wouldn't pigeonhole me

Not very sure of Canada because of the weather conditions.

Can anybody provide insights on these options?
