Given the global demand for vaccines over the next few years we'll make progress in innoculating enough of the global population that, like measles or other "endemic" viruses, the majority of the population won't get it/won't get sick from it. Potential exists for mutations to be regular enough that boosters will be required on a near-annual basis. But as more of the global population is inoculated the rate of mutation should significantly slow. As a relative in healthcare once told me, the only reason people even get the flu is because not everyone gets vaccinated against the flu.

That’s not why people get the flu. Flu Vaccines have never been fully effective.

Everyone should watch Vox explained the Next Pandemic on Netflix. It was created before covid. It tells you how these viruses are created, explains how the mRNA vaccine was being developed for years and walks you through the spread. It’s really a great explanation.

How I think vs how I hope it will end is different. I’ll just say how I hope.. that this really just becomes like the flu… probably never really going away and an annual vaccine will become available for those wanting it but not forced upon us

It takes time and the evolutions take many forms. Viruses need to become less deadly to survive because the more often it kills its host the less opportunity it has to spread to others

*actually there are NO valid "medical reasons". this is a myth. please stop propagating the idea that some people shouldn't get vaccinated. I promise, if you research this carefully, you will see confirmation of my point. The vaccine sometimes is less effective in certain people with certain rare conditions but everyone is still advised to get the vaccine. Every. adult. all of us.

C2 refusing a life saving vaccine during a global health emergency because your worried about someone making a profit is petty and illogical. Is that the kind of advice you give your clients?

COVID won’t end at this point. Vaccine or no, it’s here to stay. I think at some point it’ll mutate into some kind of flu and we’ll all get over it. Even if every single American was vaccinated, we’d still have a problem because there are 7billion people in the world and a lot of them probably won’t be vaccinated.

like

People saying it will never end so it doesn’t matter if I’m vaccinated are missing the point. Yes the virus itself will not end but it’s effect on our population can decrease to a point where it’s minimal. The amount it spreads, mutates, kills people is dependent on the amount of people vaccinated….less spread means less people sick, less people left disabled, less people dead. Want to speed up the process of it being something everyone can get over? Get vaccinated. Just because something does not reduce the risk to 0 does not mean it is pointless. It’s all about risk reduction not risk elimination. The amount of people on this app that work in finance/accounting and that don’t understand this concept is astounding.

When the rest of the world gets vaccinated to the degree we have

More or less as other airborne viruses end. Generally they morph into something less contagious and we develop herd immunity. The question I think you meant to ask is how long that will take.

Hope not. Omega sounds…too intense.

It will just be another cold and people will have to get over it. Even if I got vaccinated, this is how it will end

funny

This will never end since vaccines don’t stop transmission of the virus. We will have to live with this virus as we do with the flu.

The pandemic will never end, and the goalposts will keep shifting.

You left of the biggest group, * unvaccinated because they are one of the 5 billion people who don’t have access to the vaccine. None of it matters until progress is made with this group.

Everyone relies so heavily on protein shakes and bars but when I consume too much at once I feel bloated and nauseous. If I quit, how hard is it to find a new job?
