I found the internal role first, made sure the leadership there would help support me, and then informed my people lead that I was interested in switching. My People Lead pretty much implied that it would be a mistake and my career would suffer (and she wasn’t wrong, I had been a strong performer before and had been promoted rapidly, but after I switched, my progression pretty much stalled ). But the WLB and not having to travel while my kids were infants / young was totally worth it, I don’t regret it

For me (B4 but not Deloitte) I found and applied to an internal role. Once accepted informed my team. They knew I didn’t want to travel anymore so it wasn’t surprising (that was pre COVID).
We could search internal roles in our Workday system. There are some marked as temporary rotations which is what I started out with them eventually converted to permanent.

Bounced around a few places but in general operations type roles to help with the management and running of various groups. My first was a group of quasi client facing SMEs. Now I do it in our digital product development team; corollary to bizops in tech.
I like it very much; it suits my skills and interest and I’ve been WFH for my entire motherhood. The flexibility of that is great and not being client facing gives you back so much control over your schedule.
Growth path can be a little challenging as you have to create or wait for a role at next level. I didn’t take any pay cut but definitely have had slower growth. Hoping for promo this year.
I had support from my coach and PPMD then found the job. Apparently I did it the “wrong way” without having higher level leadership approval first, but they eventually approved and I made the move.
