This statement made by a colleague infuriates me: “HR has the responsibility but not the authority to change disinterested leadership" Just makes me think what's the point then? Do you agree?

After 20 years of banging my head against the wall, I wholeheartedly agree with that statement. HR is powerless without the backing of senior leadership.

I agree with both replies. It really depends on how much your org values HR. Leadership ultimately decides how much power HR has and how much influence. Some lean on HR more than others.

In some companies, it’s true. Depends on what role the senior leaders envision hr taking

It’s upsetting but it’s truth, but this is where the difference between being a back office function and a true business partner comes into play. It’s HR’s job to influence and be able to tell the story with data and metrics that shape the difference.

The point is to find and support organizations where leaders do value HR as a strategic partner. Leaders who choose not to value HR can stumble and fumble as they face increasing retention issues and struggle to attract good talent 🤷🏻‍♀️

Needed some opinions. I’m currently pregnant and have had a lot of issues with symptoms like fatigue, headaches.. so not sure how I’ll be able to handle the coming busy season physically and mentally. Doctor gave me a note saying they recommend me not working more than around 40 hours a week. Worried about showing it to the execs. How would you feel if someone on the team used this or had this arrangement? Is it even possible for the note to be honored?

Any good recommended books on how to build a scalable product and team? I'm looking for recommendations for two areas: 1) in general laying the groundwork in a startup to have the tools and especially processes in place to scale, and 2) tactical focus on building a SaaS project. I've been promoted into a management role from Dev roots, so need to learn more PM processes to be an effective manager in day job, plus would like to start building my own SaaS solution.

I’m the one whose ex won’t pay for college - and I have an update. My ex texted me today that he and his wife are buying our son a car (!!) for Christmas. On the one hand, it’s one less expense for me. On the other hand, my ex won’t pay for college and he owes me at least $10K for previous medical expenses, but he can find money for a car - which is a “fun” expense that will get him brownie points with our son. Whatever - my son benefits, but talk about a “Disneyland Dad.” Ugh.

Just moved to London and looking for Client Service roles or just networking at either advertising or design agency. Any advice / thought / intros would be greatly appreciate!

Was recently turned down for a position because I did a good job of talking about reporting and workflows, but couldn’t articulate how I helped drive business KPIs, come up with a new way to look at an audience or business situation which changed, or had a huge impact on planning. Any advice for my next interview? I would be interested to hear others work on that would have pleased the strategy/management team.

Chase Freedom Unlimited vs Chase Freedom Flex. Thoughts on which to get? It seems the only different is the Unlimited gives you 1.5% on all “other” purchases, and the Flex gives you only 1% on “other” but a 5% category you choose each quarter. Both have the same intro offers, including 5% groceries for the first year, and 5% travel thru Chase, 3% restaurants and drug stores forever. Thinking the Flex is the better pick out of the two but maybe im missing something
