If all of you on this thread are so sure that covid isn’t a big deal, I hope you all contract it and we’ll see how you come out the other end. Truly, would you take the bet and still be preaching your nonsense that this disease is nothing more than the flu? If you’re so adamant it’s all fine, why don’t you go have some Karen cough on you and live to tell the tale? It’s really easy to be a keyboard warrior spewing ridiculous nonsense when you’re behind an iPhone.

I’ve been following Nick/his wife since they first started reporting that he’s sick. This is so scary to me - he was otherwise healthy/no known preexisting conditions, relatively young, and got really sick and couldn’t recover. This is exactly why we need to be careful and social distance - what if I’m the next Nick? What if my best friend is? I am fortunate that I haven’t lost anyone close to me but I do know people who have been positive for Covid - a couple where the wife was barely sick but her husband felt horrible (and their infant was positive too!). One of my coworkers had a relative (young and healthy) who recovered but was hospitalized

Hey, so statistically this is expected, to have edge cases. So... In any distribution you always have outliers, especially with how widespread it is in the US. The fact is though it is the greatest risk to the elderly

Yeah, 132,568 people have died in the last 5 months. Or more than 800 people per day, that otherwise would not have died at that time. That’s 2 747’s crashing every day. Because science has become politicized. We have to get to a place as a nation where science & facts are not political.

likeupliftingsmart

I literally said “would not have died at that time.” I’m not naive thinking a lot of these people were in perfect health, but the straw that broke the proverbial camels back was covid. Would all those people be alive today? Maybe, maybe not. I can’t say. But they are not here because covid took them sooner than they should have.

I mean those are risk factors, want to understand what "perfect health" means in the context of this post. I think it's reasonable to ask if he had preexisting conditions or bad habits like smoking... Tha could explain why he died. If the answer is no, then that's fine too.

He caught Covid three months ago; initially showed signs of fatigue. Then had to have his leg amputated. Then went into coma, then woke up but was extremely weak with extensive lung damage. He has a small child. Show some empathy.

One healthier younger person dies and now everyone is scared again. Healthy young people can also die of the flu or the common cold. Stop.

This virus is new. We are just learning what kind of havoc it will do to the human body.

He wasn’t healthy. Didn’t he get his legs amputated?

Also to add, this virus is largely vascular. The new protocol is to start patients on anti-coagulants which we didn’t know to do in March. The death rate has drastically fallen as a result.

It’s terrible that he died. I noticed that the stories about his case mention that he was on dialysis, in addition to having his leg amputated, both of which are commonly associated with diabetes. Since you are using this as an example of a healthy person without comorbidities, is there any confirmation of whether or not he was already suffering from diabetes prior to contracting COVID-19?

like

He went into multi-organ failure needing ECMO. In layman terms, he needed a machine to bypass his lungs and heart and pump blood through his body. It has about a 30% survival rate.

Why does he have a go fund me with $880k. Like people take your $800k and spread it out to people who aren’t large Broadway stars. 1000s of people are dying from this disease why are we giving that much money to someone who has a net worth in the millions...

like

He had multiple leading roles in top broadway shows. He’s certainly doing better than most of the population who is struggling with their family having no work and losing loved ones to covid as well. My point still stands.

A 20 year old female in chicago, with no co-morbidities, had to have a double lung transplant, or she would have died. This is what came out: No one is safe from this thing. Even if it doesn’t kill you, being so sick for weeks that you actually wouldn’t mind dying does not sound like my idea of a good time. My partner comes from a town in Italy and almost none of his friends even have grandparents anymore because they all died in March

Seriously what the hell is wrong with people in this thread? This is why I feel hopeless for action we need to be taken vs climate change because the results will be even more devastating. People seem to only care about this virus when it personally affects them or their family in an impact way. I see people actually stating that the media is still over hyping a PANDEMIC that has killed over 100K worldwide and the US is leading the charge. And let's be clear here, this is definitely being made into a political issue mainly by one side. I see more reactions and anger about how Benghazi as handled which resulted in 4 total Americans dying. This was made into a political issue as well and all blamed on one party (arguably mostly on Hillary Clinton herself). And the entire basis of this was a false conspiracy theory. Even after an investigation where it was determined that it was the lack of funding from congress that allowed that attack to occur on the embassy (so the fault of both parties - though I think republicans had more control here?), the damage had been set.

Smoker?

Not a doctor but I’d wager if you took 1,000 non smokers and 1,000 smokers and infected them with a respiratory illness the non smokers would fare better. Again, not a doctor, but this one seems straight forward.

I’m an associate at a small commercial lender focused firm…and I had an interview with the partner at a big law firm. He asked if I had any concerns about working in big law. I said I was worried about WLB as a mother of an 8 month old. He responded with the typical “I know plenty of female attorneys who put their kids to bed…they just work after their kids go to bed. There’s no reason to worry.” this just rubbed me the wrong way. Is this just me?? This just big law life?
