I started my career at Accenture 3.5 years ago. (B.Tech, IT grad) I've been dealing with business/functional specific things since I've joined. Though in the first 1.5 year, they didn't even have a definite name for the work we did. About 1.5 year ago, they convinced me to take up a dual role of Dev/ Business Analyst as a result of me asking them for a dev role since I joined project. They really wanted me to do the BA.
I quickly transitioned into a full BA/BSA role because I enjoyed it and was good it at, much more than development.
Now, I've been in this role for 1.5 year and I am certain that I'm being taken advantage of due to the yoe and career level I'm at, among other things. I work incredibly long hours and am always stressed. My mental and physical health have deteriorated a lot.
I'd really like a change but I'm worried about the job criteria being listed at other companies (where quite a few want a developer, tester and analyst all in one).
I'm incredibly confused on what roles to apply for and which skills I should have before I do.
I have been told by colleagues that they appreciate my analysis work and enjoy working with me but I feel like I'm stunted here in both learning about the role and learning in general.
My experience so far is with: requirement gathering, user stories creation, analysing the requirements and beyond, Creating the business logic to be used by dev team, Conducting demos for clients and testing teams, the occasional testing (not with testcases. Just for my satisfaction that business logic is being implemented properly), analysing the system(s) vs the requirements and finding things that weren't initially considered, suggesting UI/UX changes beyond initial requirements (this one I mostly do because it's fun. I don't know how to create clean wireframes and all that jazz), Occasional user guide documentation, reviewing test cases (very high-level because I don't have experience with testing).
I don't want to toot my own horn but I have fairly effective communication skills and am good at settling conflict that may be due to miscommunication between teams and/or leads. I'm always told that I'm key resource but at this point, I'd rather not be.
I haven't done any certifications or training related to this.
Please advise on the following:
- What sort of roles to look for when applying for jobs?
- What skillset should I have?
- What are the most important things for a BA/BSA role?
- What certifications are truly important (IIBA?)
I'd rather not do development work because it's not my strong suit but I would really like to improve on the skills I do have.
People keep telling me to switch companies but I'm honestly terrified that I don't have the skills to make the jump. I'm at a point where I don't have any time outside of my role tasks to study for certifications. But I'm afraid that's never going to happen if I stay stuck in my present situation.
I need to get out of this jam and any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA!
I understand your feeling of being stuck but trust me you have a lot of skills that you can build on. You're doing exceptionally well for your YOE.
I don't have te technology background so will just say 2 things:
1. Try to master/learn skills you really enjoy. That ways even if you have more work you wouldn't be stressed.
2. If you've decided to switch, start being a little selfish and spend time on your growth and development rather than doing ad-hoc work for others.
All the best!

Hi! I'm from a Tier 3 B.Tech college. Worked at HCL for 2.5 years in technology consulting. Followed by PGPM from Great Lakes, Chennai. 4 years at TCS in digital strategy consulting for CPG & Retail clients. I started with Presales, did some digital strategy consulting (assessments, roadmaps, execution) in the areas of digital marketing, commerce, customer experience. Added experience around business development, marketing and innovation.
I joined TCS with 9LPA, 4 years later, I'm at 12LPA (with an 5% increment due anytime). All companies I've interviewed for are ready to give only 30-35% hike. Now I feel bad that I should have switched earlier. The only upside has been great exposure, great work life balance.
I have the following 3 questions for fellow fishes:
1. What roles should I be looking at? (a) Management consulting / (b) Product Management / (c) Category management / (d) Business Development. My preference is a > c > d > b. Are there any other roles you suggest based on my experience?
2. How do I get to the 20LPA+ bracket? Do 2 hikes: Take a 16 now, jump to 20 in 1-2 years? or wait for a company that gives me a good hike?
3. How do I convert more interviews? I prepare in great detail and I'd rate my interviews well. A lot of companies have issues with my 90 day notice period. I've interviewed intensively but have been rejected in the last round citing "your experience doesn't match our requirements". They're doing 2-4 rounds and realize in the end rather than finding out by simply reading my resume. I guess most companies find better candidates and hence reject me.
I'm currently working as a tester for last 1 year and I want to switch to some other non technical role in consulting then which positions/jobs can I target?

Now you're talking D1 !
Don't you see Data science/analysis is the way forward for you given your knowledge in it?
I started my career from Infosys and left with 2.7 YOE at 4.35 LPA. Recently joined big4 in management consulting at 10.5+2.1 LPA (fix+var).
Always wanted to go for mba since I'm from tier 3 btech. So at this point would a full time from tier1/2 would be good or a working professional mba from iim Lucknow would be as good ? Counting in the opportunity cost and everything
Bro , instead of going for MBA learn new skill viz, Py, AI , Data science, Devops. You will be in vetter position than any IIM passout in 2 yrs. Waise bhi, for next 2 yrs no co in India will give u onshore opportunity. Make best of WFH nd learn new tech
Deloitte vs Accenture for SAP. Projects, WLB, Learning, Hikes. 2 YOE.
Yeah it's like that at D. But I'm lucky to get a good mentor here. But he is leaving now so I'm also planning to leave.
Hi I am working with TCS for last 8.5+ years, with 2 years of US onsite Experience .
My current package in 8 Lpa, I know it's very low.
I have offer from Amazon for Business Intelligence Engineer role for 13+5 (fix+bonus). Is it a good offer to go for. Any insight into BI role. What should I expect, in terms of growth, learning, work pressure and work life balance.
I'm planning to move to the US with my SO. I have two years of experience at Amazon as an L2. Amazon won't sponsor my visa. What are my options to shift to the US as many companies do not sponsor Visa at such entry level.
I started my carrer in SAP basis, seven months ago. Could you please suggest me how I learn and run in this field with the coming scenarios.

Are you planning to get certified as well?
I am an MBA in finance, and working in a non finance role since past one year. Please advice on how to get into Analyst roles in companies like CRISIL, Morgan Stanley, J P Morgan etc with zero experience. Can start as a fresher if provided a suitable finance roles in domains like Credit risk, Financial analysis etc.
Getting calls from these are a bit tough even after referrals. I managed to get 9+ offers but couldn't get a call from JP, Morgan ,Goldman even after referrals. I'd suggest start with northern trust,State Street,ANZ, bnp Paribas. Here chances are good. I had offer from NT

Hi, I am working as a tableau developer for past 2 years with overall experience of 4. 2 years. I have been working in the same company since the beginning of my professional career. I want to make into Big4 companies in the role of data analyst/ data science/ tableau developer. What path should I choose?
Chief
I think you should start applying for Associate profiles in MBB or Big4. The more hands-on exp you have, the higher chance of cracking an interview. As you grow, you will focus more on UI and design rather than dev and that will make it trickier to switch. Similarly, your salary expectations will also grow making the pool of available opportunities shrink. Switch now...
I have 3.3 YOE and I am planning to do an executive MBA from ISB or top IIM's after a good GMAT score. However my graduation scores are very low (63%) and from a tier 3 college. I have good 10th and 12th scores in the 80% and 90% category. Would I be able to make it to top bschools if I focus on my GMAT and get a 700+ score now?
A 700+ GMAT doesn't guarantee a seat. Your work experience and how well you articulate it during the application and interview matters. Been there, done that.
Hello.. is there any work from home jobs a available offsite at Hyderabad india location from good companies.
Hello, I need information about work culture in Publicis sapient. Please share your experiences if you are already a part of PS
If we have multiple offers in hand, how do we inform the companies in which we are not joining? This is the first time I'm facing this scenario and I'm afraid of what to do..
Chief
Short answer - Don't be afraid. You won't get blacklisted just because you have a better offer from somewhere else. Just be polite and humble about it.
Left industry for Deloitte USI. Is USI viable for long term if one is aiming for higher pay?
