This will be my first year as a math/science coach for a K-5th grade elementary school. What are some things you would like your math/science coach to do to support you as a classroom educator? If you are an academic coach yourself, what tips can you offer to someone coming into this position?

Yes, please. My best advice is to try and recognize the strengths your teachers already bring and help them build. Also, offer opportunities for them to observe other teachers if something is going on they want to see and you could cover their class. I want to say I really appreciate you asking how to help. It means a lot when others’ professional opinions are sought and respected. In general, teachers know their weaknesses and are already probably trying to make improvements.😁

These are all great insights. Thank you! I love the idea of covering for teachers to observe one another. We have so many talented educators who bring something unique to the table, and the better that is utilized (rather than me trying to pretend I know it all), the better we all are for it. Also, thank you for your encouragement. I tried to think about what I have expected from my coaches, and "to be heard and respected as an educated professional" is definitely top of that list. Glad to hear this is a shared sentiment.

I use to be an academic coach and the best advice that I can give is build relationships. Remember how you felt when someone came in your room trying to show you how to do something different. Build relationships!

Love that you asked this, I'm sure you will be great in this role. I think you're already off to a great start by actually being interested in finding out what the teachers you're going to be supporting might find helpful. Best of luck :)

Listen. Provide praise with an audience. "I observed Ms. Jones using this effective method in her class..." "Can you share with us other methods you have found effective?"

I think there will be a huge push next year for differentiation in work materials and center work. This is really the area I would love support in. Be genuine , praise the teachers and partner with them😃

I know this varies based on the company but besides project needs from the hiring manager, does anybody take multiple months between when your background check clears and you actually start? Waiting for official offer document is stressful. Interviews done. Negotiation done. Verbal offer received. Just filled out app/reference/background documents. Official offer letter is going through legal review. Working honestly on my current project, while trying to time exit is not fun. I'm trying to not sign up for more work because it will feel like a broken promise to my teammates whom I like. Plus, I wonder a little if the official offer letter will have anything outrageous in it.

Hey guys I’m staff2 in audit and will be promoted to senior in June. I would expect around 25-30% raise. Currently 100% remote work & don’t see going back to the office soon. Also, I need to pay 20k bonus back for breaking retention period. I recently got an offer for a valuation consultant position at mid size firm with 15% raise and go to office 3 days a week. Feel like valuation position is more attractive in long term but think getting lowballed extremely. What do you think?
