Total stock market includes small/mid cap. I hold VTI and VXUS (or the mutual fund equivalents) for total market exposure.

Thx!

I disagree that holding VTI is equivalent to holding VOO + a mid cap or small cap fund. The exposure in mid cap stocks in VTI is small. No company beyond the first 1000 in VTI represents more than .01% of the fund. This is why VOO and VTI have nearly identical returns, the weightings are such that they are heavily weighted to the largest companies. A mid cap or small cap fund alternatively will give you real weighing in smaller companies. Now, that’s no guarantees that these smaller cap funds will out perform VTI but if you held 1/3 each in VOO, mid cap and small cap, it will be very different weighting than holding 100% VTI.

Really appreciate the response here and if I’m understanding correctly, this validates my approach of having VOO, VBK, and IUSG. Thx!

Nothing wrong with that but VTI or ITOT would be easier, depending on the percentages you want

Thx!

I had the same question and ended up getting large cap (voo) and mid cap (vot), and skipped the small cap. I remembered looking at the charts and they all had the same 5/10yr trajectory, with small cap having the least returns. I understand there are some overlaps but also looked into the variances in their sector exposures

Got an offer from a T2 at 1 level before the Post-MBA level. Current firm offered to match base comp with guaranteed promo to Post-MBA level. Anyone else starting to feel nervous about the extra $600/week unemployment going away? Also, is it just me or does it seem stupidly misguided that the Senate/WH prefer to send another stimulus check instead of extending unemployment benefits? Not to mention the argument that it disincentivizes people going back to work is dumb when there are no jobs to return to.
