Those of you who have had their companies go from a certain number of days PTO to unlimited PTO, did you actually take more days off after the change or were you pressured to take less? Company and service line would be helpful but not necessary

I was polled about this by my company and gave a resounding no vote. Same work requirements and no payout of unused balance if you leave or are laid off.

Never had the option but it’s always sounded shady in PA. It hard enough to schedule days you are “entitled” to. I couldn’t imagine someone just taking days off at their leisure lol

I agree it’s a scam - I was at EY now somewhere where it is “unlimited” I find we all work more and I have to consciously work into my calendar to keep the same amount of PTO that I had at EY to make sure I am not getting screwed over. Unlimited PTO also means no payout when you leave, so it is looked down upon if you take any time off after giving notice. Even if you never took any time off in the past 6+ months before leaving.

We switched beginning of 2019. Last year I took similar to what I would have taken if we didn't have unlimited. I don't remember the exact number of hours. Have never been pressured to take less time. And anyone who does is gonna be on my bad side real quick. I'm at 160+ hours already for this year, however, only about half is actual vacation. The rest for my dad's passing and being sick.

Lateraled to a new firm ~2 months ago and have a planned vacation coming up in 1 month (this was planned way before the move, even before I had considered interviewing). Recruiting and the head of my practice group gave me the OK on the vacation before I joined, but I’m still stressed about telling people I’m about to go on vacation as a new joiner to the firm. Words of advice/good vibes/etc., all greatly appreciated.

I think if someone has served the country, they should be granted Veteran's Day off as a paid holiday. Not forced to use their accrued PTO, or sick day. It's a holiday they earned for the rest of their lives. Call me crazy but this makes sense to me.

Landed a new job!! Couldn’t be more excited! I have two questions though— 1) how would you go about quitting your current job when in the middle of a two week holiday break? 2) I would like to negotiate for $5k-$10k more. Any tips from anyone who has done so successfully

If I put in my two weeks and the last week is PTO I already had planned (at an unlimited PTO firm) will they just tell me they're not paying me for the last week?

Slight vent: I had saved up a bunch of PTO to travel a ton this year (long-term project) which obviously got kicked to the dust and I have a bunch expiring this year because of that. Was looking forward to next year (including a family trip that’s been on the calendar for 2 years), but 3 people just left the team, only 1 will be replaced, and 3 more announced parental leave in spring. I have go lives through February and feel like I’m sprinting a marathon and will never get a break now.

I have recently been approached by a Deloitte Commercial recruiter and a GPS recruiter. I have a TS/SCI, but want to eventually move over to the commercial side. The GPS recruiter seems more responsive and I know that it will be an easier transition to move over within the fed space. My question is whether I should wait on the commercial recruiter to get moving or interview with GPS and try to move over to commercial if I’m hired into Deloitte GPS.

Feel silly reaching out here but would love some perspective. I want to understand how much cash to keep. Currently have $305k in a Marcus account that’s earning nothing. Any help would be great.
