Leverage consulting and your network to get onto technical projects. Be specific with what you say yes to and pick projects that's best for you and your career.
That’s great advice, thanks. I’ve tried doing that to the best of my abilities, so I definitely have some technical experience. However, my company tends to not have too many overly technical roles in cyber. Most are RMF, compliance, governance, etc related. All of which I find to be really boring.
I’d like to know too. I’m considering taking a class or certification of some kind. Maybe a bootcamp to learn the more technical side of things. (Cloud security, scanning tools, attack and threat analysis, and Kubernetes seem to be the heavy hitters)
I’ve done some cloud security (AWS) and lots of scanning tools. You’re right though, I need to learn about threat modeling and analysis. I have the sec+ and the CEH but not sure it’s enough.
Same, I’ve been going through a couple of interviews and I’ve been told my work experience isn’t really technical enough (all I do is build decks). It’s been a huge pain point in this process and I’m not sure how to overcome that.
Yeah, I am. I mean we do have high level assessments I help support, but I’m really not doing any tool-specific work. I know IAM has a lot of opportunities there, but it’s not my area of interest.

A1 we do a ton of technical stuff, got free kubernetes and cloud training all over the place.
D1 thought y’all supposed to be technical? Recruiter lied to me haha
A2 would you be open to connecting and talking to me a bit about that work? I’m a manager in security strategy (risk mgmt essentially) but might want to pivot to something like a security engineer
