Those who left PA to industry roles, what makes you to be happy with your choice?

I have a life outside work and my coworkers aren’t miserable / out to get each other.

95k. 38 hours avg work weeks. You’d be shocked once you realize how much PA was affecting your life, personality, and mental state. I don’t think you really comprehend it until you’re on the other side

Low stress levels and everyone understands that you have a life outside of work.

I like what I do during the work day, find it interesting and challenging, but I have a life outside of work too. I have hobbies now and spend more time with my husband. I make enough money to have a happy and fun life.

like

More pay, better work life balance, more PTO days, not working 70+ hours, no billable hours, everyone in the office genuinely looks like they enjoy working, less stress.

I’m a SM in industry and was one when I left PA. I make about $250K a year.

I heard it’s extremely boring from multiple people on here

Same as above. I've been industry for a week. No stress is nice

like

I actually had the opposite experience. Went to be a controller and it's non stop stress dealing with people that have no idea how things work and I am.unable to take vacation since no one backfills my work. No resources and constantly working 45-50 hours all year around regardless. Its like ground hog day every month and sharp deadlines regardless of when other people get you the information you need. Just put in my two weeks and going back to public for upward mobility, consistent raises and flexibility to take vacation. Initial pay bump to come to industry was nice but after 2 years it's about equal honestly.

like

My experience is a little closer to RSM1. I feel suffocated by the Groundhog Day-ness and can’t foresee how I’ll be able to take a vacation more than a day here or there. I was a SM when I left and only working a lot (but on my terms) in season. I miss my flexibility the most. I also miss working with different people

like

Groundhog day, that’s exactly how I feel. I also have a feeling that I can’t take a vacation for more than a few days and miss working with different people. But also less stress and better hours. Considering going back to PA, but not sure if it would be the right decision.

Thanks guys for responses, would you mind sharing how much you make in industry right now? I don’t wanna stay in public forever and this would help me to gauge when to start looking for Industry jobs.

SM1 what is your new role? What title did you get in industry leaving as a SM?

SA2 how many years of work experience did you have before switching over to your current position, I'm considering a job offer and kind of nervous to ask for an amount that Linkedin Salary says is average for my area as it seems high...

Low stress, low hours, high pay. What’s not to like?

Working in public generally is a bunch of high performers. That is not the case in industry which can be very frustrating when stuff needs to get done.
