We meal prep so usually just heating stuff up. Or takeout twice a week. It’s really a time saver to meal prep. My daycare started closing at 530 so I have to leave at 5 to get my 5 month old. He goes to bed around 730-745 and sleeps until 5 or 6. We have a nanny that gets him from daycare and helps out 3 days a week and it’s soooooo nice and helpful. I more struggle with the morning routine aka trying to work out, get him ready and feed him, get myself ready, get him to daycare (even with husband helping). It’s so hard! I think it’s worse because he wakes up anytime between 5 and 630. We usually put him back down but it’s so unpredictable

We do a food delivery service 7 days a week. <10 mins prep at 6:45. 8 pm bedtime. We eat with our kid so we don’t have to do 2 dinners

like

Which meal service?

I double up what I make and rarely actually cook at dinnertime. I do most cooking while I’m on calls or have small breaks between calls. Dinner then becomes reheating for a few mins instead of kids freaking out while waiting for food when we get home from daycare.

like

We cook pretty simple meals on weekdays 6-6:30. We all eat the same thing. We only bathe our toddler twice during the work week and start stories for bedtime at 8pm.

like

We stop working 4 PM (at least one of us) and around 5:30 we prep dinner (usually leftovers or something quick) and eat around 545-6:15 pm depending on what we’re doing. All eat together and then if a bath is happening a few times a week, kids bathe and are in bed by 7PM.

like

Weekdays kids do dinner with nanny. We start bedtime at 6:30, finish at 7:30. Takeout arrives at 7:30 🤷‍♀️

like

Enough to facilitate kids dinner at 5pm (?)

We prep dinner at 5:30, eat at 6. Bedtime routine (book, brush teeth, change of clothes) at 7 and in bed by 7:30. I try to make meals that take less than 30'. Find easy recipes on the net, insta, etc.

like

OP - we have marked out areas on the floor that they cannot cross with red masking tape. Toddlers know not to cross the “boo boo” line. They play on the floor with books, puzzles or crayons while we cook and clean.

like

I am amazed how many of you are able to start prep dinner around 5:30…I am on calls until 6-6:30 and sometimes even later so impossible for kids to be in bed by 7-7:30…they go around 9-9:30 :( and my husband is also helping but still can not make it for earlier than that time…

like

I know you’re not a big prepper, but that is huge for us. My husband and I cook basically everything on Sunday night and then just pull stuff out of the fridge at 6 and heat it up each day.

like

Oh also we recently started freezing a lot more meals…. Making double the recipe and freezing, doing that for like two weeks and then for the next month or so when we have nothing we can whip it out and have homemade in a few minutes.

I block off 5-8pm. We give them 30min of tv time between 5-5:30. That’s when I cook, usually there’s a few leftovers and I make 1 entree. Sometimes I’ll do some prep earlier in the day between calls if I have time. I’ve tried food service in the past (hello fresh and green chef) but found they didn’t cut down on my prep time at all. If it takes me a little longer to make dinner, husband plays with them until dinner is ready, no later than 6pm. We go upstairs at 7pm to begin bedtime, only bath 2-3x a week, and it’s lights out at 8pm (and I go back to work).

If you all sleep so early when do you wake up? I

Noooo don’t tell me that! Mine is 2.5 and still going strong!

I tried doing a hot dinner for my toddler before bedtime, but it just wasn’t possible. Now, we get home from daycare pick up about 4:30 and we play for about 30 minutes. Then the toddler gets leftovers or a sandwich while I feed the baby puréed food. Baby is generally dying to go to bed by 5:45 (can’t figure out how to push it back later), so toddler gets TV time while I give baby a bath and bottle. Come back about 6:15ish, toddler can finish whatever show he’s watching while I tidy up the kids dinner (not much). I take toddler to bed about 6:30, then that’s done 7:15-7:30 (toddler is a master at dragging out bedtime). I’ll come down and make a quick dinner for my husband and I. Normally I’ll have prepped vegetables and meat during the day so it’s just a matter of cooking. Sometimes it’s a rough day and we get takeout. This is a tough period in our lives with two needy kids, so I don’t stress too much that we’re not all eating together.

How old is baby & what is their nap/eat schedule throughout the day? Maybe we can help, if you want!

Crockpot is a big lifesaver for me. I can prep it the night before and then just turn it on during the day sometime and it’s ready to go come dinner time. I always double up what I cook, so I only have to cook every other night. We eat around 5:30 and kids are in bed sometime 6:30-7:30 depending on how naps were during the day. If it’s an especially hectic day, it’s breakfast for dinner (scrambled eggs, frozen sausage, toast & fruit or oatmeal) or sandwich.

like

Bbq chicken sandwiches, spaghetti bolognese, tacos, chicken burrito bowls, pot roast, soups. I do a LOT in it. LMK if you want specific recipes! I also have a crockpot that you can sauté in and I think that’s a game changer!

like

Wow! Do all of you really just stop working at 4/5pm?? I don't know how to make this happen. What did you do before wfh?

like

I do not stop exactly, I pause. I let my team know I am available up until 5 and then after 7:30-8 pm. I get back on after the kids are settled. I view dinner, bath, and bedtime routine as sacred. Generally my team is supportive - they know if something truly urgent comes up, I am responsive, and they know I always get my work done.

like

Unpopular opinion: we do later bedtime. Bedtime is 8:30/8:45 with 7:30 am wake-up. This works much better for us

like

Kick off work at 4/430pm for pickup. I either hit the gym with my kid or make dinner. Food, bath, bed by 8pm. Then work again, till ~midnight. It’s honestly the only time I tell people no and I need to be with my kid.

like

Make easy dinner for the young ones so that you don’t put that kind of pressure on yourself. 1. A pasta that you can prep ahead for a couple of days of the week. 2. Frozen broccoli that you can throw in the microwave as a vegetable 3. Frozen organic trader Joe Mac and cheese 4. Chicken nuggets Etc. that way you are able to get dinner on the plate while your husband is given them a bath

Deloitte: I see there is an HR policy that allows you to go 60-80% whenever you want to/in any role so long as there is a business case. Does this ever happen in consulting? Is it more likely to be approved in certain groups/with certain skills? I’m thinking it might be feasible to stay here if I could could go on a reduced schedule after baby 2. If that’s something I could work towards and prepare for in the year or so prior, I’d like to set myself up well for it! Any insight is appreciated!

Does your baby drink more milk when away from you? I am WFH and pumping and breastfeeding. Sometimes nanny gives baby the bottle and then baby wants / sees me and nurses after. I pump afterwards but only get like 1 oz (since she drank a full bottle). So basically, baby needed another 4 oz on top of breastfeeding. On the weekend baby drinks from me and doesn’t need more milk. Baby is 10 months. I have a freezer stash but don’t want to reduce supply too much.

Anybody else feel a little sentimental when they realize their toddler has lost their baby memories? For instance, tonight my 3 year old chose a bedtime book that we haven't read in a really long time (maybe 9 months, at least). We used to read this book all the time and he loved it. Tonight, I realized it was like I was reading it to him for the first time. I know we're forming so many great, new memories; but, it made me feel a little sad that some of our beautiful old memories will be lost.

I’ve also already taken the GMAT and gotten a 740. I’m an Asian male and find the hurdles that we go through for admissions a turn off as well.
