My friends take Lyfts/Uber with the windows down (so air circulates), wear a mask the whole time in the car, and sanitize tons after.
Live in NJ and have recently tried then all (subway, mta bus, NJ transit bus, 42nd street vans, path) to see a) how they are running and b) how clean/safe they feel
- subway/path easier to stay away from people and everyone was masked and respectful of space.
-nj transit buses - front seats blocked around driver, drivers not handling tickets paid by app on phone... avoided touching anything in Port Authority (not Covid related)
-mta buses - the worst both M34 and M42... over crowded, whilst masked and bus full people still crammed on and was hard to avoid being in people personal space.
-42nd street vans - as soon as they have enough passengers to be in profit on the route they are running, not waiting for full bus as usually do, but they have to keep running or they will lose their license for the routes.
I’m sure the subway is fine, but I feel no need to take it. If it’s not in biking distance, I don’t need to go there
Walking everywhere, Lyfts if it’s a bit further.
I trust public transportation, but I just don’t want to be around a ton of people yet.
Walking a lot - not really leaving neighborhood too much! When I do, it’s either Lyfts or Citibike has been a big lifesaver for me!
Nope. and Nope. Anyone trusting any municipal service, particularly a monopoly, not to cut as many corners as possible is out of their damned mind.
There are no laws on this, or OSHA regualtions, and Republican congress have promised to not pass anythig that doesn't indemnify companies from any liability for employees and customers regarding COVID.
So do I feel the MTA has the best interest of the people. Hellll to the No.

I have been using my bike in Brooklyn unless it’s for somewhere in Manhattan then I’ve been using the subway sporadically. Feel safe and appears clean and not too many people.
I took a train a few times and it was fine. I prefer walking however, or taking ubers.

I used the bus recently. Wore a mask and tried to keep myself away from people. I’m not gonna lie, I wasn’t that comfortable doing it and was glad when I got to the stop near my home.
Have taken the subway a few times and i feel safer on it then a taxi/Uber/Lyft
People are all in masks, everyone is respecting 6 feet distancing and great air flow
They are also doing UV cleaning at night, which no driver will do. The UV will kill anything that might be hanging around in the air or surface.
Pro train right now
Took the train a few times since March. Most people wear masks. Everyone keeps a distance from each other if they can help it. The trains are the cleanest I've ever seen. Sad that it took a pandemic for us to get decent sanitary condition.
During rush hours it is more crowded but manageable, nowhere near pre-Covid level of crowding. Outside of rush hours it's very sparse, on trains with those long blue benches, I counted 1 or 2 persons at most on each.
