Those working at BDO. How do you like it? How is it different from BIG 4 firm? What are some good and bad things if you compare working for BIG 4 vs. BDO?

Same pay, less interesting work, less intelligent and competent people and less prestige. I worked there and hated it. Came back to Big 4.

My hours at BDO were worse than at big 4, it was more rigid with mandatory Saturdays during busy season all in the office. I would not recommend that place to anyone, the culture is very broken.

Avoid BDO at all costs

I mean, they'll give you a jump to get you in the door but after that, it's all downhill

It's the same stuff that every firm has but with a different name on the building and the people have different names. The pay is comparable to an extent. The work depends on your office and who you get with but yes, less public client work and not necessarily complex issues at every turn. I worked at EY and ran across my fair share of "less intelligent and competent" people there just like at BDO. Just like at all firms, it depends on the people in the office you're looking at and who you'll be working with.

like

Just like all other firms. International reach, but fewer SEC clients. The expansion offices tend to have much smaller clients than the longtime legacy offices. However, the people are better - less BS in my opinion. You still have to deal with regional and national management, so that part sucks. The hours do seem less for similar pay when compared to B4.

Ya I'm not worked like a slave

I spent time both on the client side and internally at national at BDO and was there for over 5 years. I ended up leaving both roles really unsatisfied and frustrated. From a firm/national perspective there's a lot of great leaders and partners who are really pushing for transformation and change. However on an office level it's a shit show. So many offices are hostile in preventing any change and end up cutting off their nose just to spite the face so to say. Lots of incompetence once you move down the rungs.

like

Still here- trying to leave. Wouldn't recommend

like

The hours and pay can be better than Big 4. If you're trying to get in, get your CPA and exit in 2-3 years it's fine. I'd still prioritize Big 4 but it's an alternative.

like

Work half as much for 2X the pay. Maybe 3X

like

EY1 nailed it

I had similar experience as Application Consultation 1 and agree local offices are shit shows...especially the offices that had recent acquisitions of smaller firms.
