Thought experiment: Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? The US today is about to crumble from within, similar to the Soviet Union in the late 80s.

Disagree. 2021 onward in the US is going to be epic. We are about to see an entrepreneurial explosion.

A1 I’m sure there will be a lot of that too, but I see no reason why we wouldn’t build highly automated factories right here in the US. I’m not imagining armies of Americans on assembly lines, I’m imagining robotics everywhere and jobs in building, maintaining and upgrading those. Especially for anything we consider a national security issue (which will be defined much more broadly) I expect we will bring it back even if we need to subsidize doing so.

I do agree the US will probably split from an ideological standpoint. But we still have another 10-20 years or so. It can be avoided but it will probably be hard.

It will likely separate in blue and red states. They can be close trading partners. No crumbling.

Prior to collapse, Soviet Union had major unrest and riots in most of it member states about a decade before.

I don’t know if it’ll be like the Soviet Union, but I’ve been saying the union’s in danger since March. We have no leadership.

Agree, republics fall from within. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely

I lived through the collapse of the Soviet Union while I was in University. My marriage certificate and diploma were one of the last to have CCCP on them. I still can't believe it's actually gone. I, and everyone I know, were so proud of our country. We were lucky to have been born in the USSR, unlike the poor starving children in Appalachia in America, innocent victims of capitalism at its worst. Contrary to what was mentioned by someone else above, there were no widespread riots and unrest. The scale was very much on par with what is happening in the US now. What pushed it past the breaking point was the attempted coup in August 1991 by ultraconservatives who were against Gorbachev's policies that included opening up more to the west, in particular America. I think the risk of the US following this path, is if Biden wins and is then over thrown in an attempted coup.

Currently in audit, looking to do tax returns for friends and family on the side to make a little extra money. Two questions: 1) would the firm have a problem with this if it doesn’t interfere with my work? I assume no since the firm probably isn’t interested in filing my brother’s return (he is a union electrician). 2) I have no experience in tax (I don’t even do my own return), so is there a good software to use for this or what is the best way to learn how to do tax returns?

We live in the Metro Detroit area and our 6 month old has eczema. I fly to client locations and my wife works from home. So we are looking for the best place (climate) to relocate to so we can help our baby beat his condition before it gets worse. Not too dry, not too humid. I need to be close to a well connected airport. Plus a progressive place would be better for us as we are first gen immigrants. Would like to stay in EST, with CST being the second preference. Any suggestions?
