Thought my lateral interview yesterday went great. Sent a thank you email last evening to each participant. Haven’t received one reply. I find that strange. I guess I blew it?

Nah. Don't read too much into that.

like

Nah, not unusual to not reply to thank you emails.

like

Yeah, are you supposed to say thank you for the thank you? I don’t reply to thank you emails. I wouldn’t sweat it.

like

I’ve never received a response to an interview thank you.

like

Don't read into that. I've gotten offers when not one person responded. Having done many interviews myself, I try to respond to thank you emails but sometimes didn't because I was just way too busy.

like

Agree with everyone above, I think that's pretty normal. Twice so far I didn't get replies to those emails, but did get the job. Good luck!

like

I don’t usually respond to thank you emails from those I interviewed. I can’t say anything about their candidacy (even if I knew anything, which I don’t) so what’s left, a thank you to your thank you?

likesmart

I wouldn’t expect a response to a thank you email, but the only two times I’ve gotten them, I ended up getting offers from those companies.

This. No response is not a bad sign but generally getting a response is a pretty good sign. Usually busy attorneys at firms won’t respond to a thank you but that doesn’t mean they aren’t interested. I’d say if it goes 1-2 weeks w no word from anyone about your candidacy you can start thinking you’re out.

I usually try to include a follow up question in my thank you email to try and encourage a follow up. It isn't always successful, but at least I'm demonstrating continued interest in the role.

I never respond to thank you emails for interviews.

What is a good interview answer for leaving a job after a few months when the real reason is that you’re sleeping with one eye open in hopes of not being on the chopping block after two rounds of massive layoffs? Company culture is at an all-time low, and it will only go down from here from what I’ve seen in the short months I’ve been there.

Don’t employers complete their background checks of employees BEFORE the individual starts? Or at least be done with it a week or two into starting? 2 months in and there’s a request for some documentation of prior employment. 🙄

Is a daily 1.5 hour commute (total) worth a more supportive work environment and better benefits?
Thinking of jumping ship after just 6 months in a fully remote position for an in-house, in person job where expectation is 5d/week in person. Commute would be around 90minutes/day in interstate. Better salary, good 401k match, parental leave (20 weeks paid), 4wks PTO, and a very big name for the resume. 3 YOE. But I love the flexibility of remote work, so struggling to decide.

Any insight???

How important is firm culture/WLB vs practice area? I’m a first year associate working for a firm I summered for. It’s a boutique tax firm with some civil litigation. I love the lit work (have always wanted to do litigation) but I truly hate the tax and corporate work.
The WLB is really good though. My boss is generally pretty flexible with my hours, and understanding with family responsibilities (I’m a mom). I have a 1500 billable req and I work very well with my boss.
