He needs to retire

Someone made an Inverse Cramer ETF and it’s up 12% this year with the entire market in the toilet. Cramer is a clown.

likefunny

Lol, he has been a clown from day one ..

like

No. Cramer is fine, but his advice on stocks and stuff is trash. He’s been wrong so many times. I also won’t take the advice of a former finance pro who got skewered by Jon Stewart (if I recall correctly).

like

I think there’s truth to what he says. Humans have shown throughout history that we’re notoriously bad at planning for low probability events.

Think of fire safety standards in the 20s through 50s. Children’s pajamas used to be made of wool. Have you ever seen what wool does next to an open flame? As horrific as it sounds to think of young children catching fire, it would only happen 4 or 5 times per year across the United states. An individual would never think to use polyester, but a government can create fire safety standards and manufacturing rules in the textile industry to net a social good. If Cramer can get people to at least think about an unexpected health scare, and open up some eyes that maybe weren’t thinking about it, then he’s doing a good thing.

This 🤡 is a workaholic. He’s lost the plot on what life is all about (as many have who worship at the alter of the rat race). Also, the logic is hilarious: “you might have health problems, so you should work until you die young”. Total clown.

Toxic mentality for sure

Sounds like someone with a vested interest in people putting more money into retirement funds instead of drawing from them early. Think of the fees that money managers will miss out on!

like

I early retired at 56 and agree somewhat. You need to have a very good cushion. 40 would have been too early for me. His comment about health reversal is a double edged sword. Yeah, a health issue may cost you more than you expect, but on the flip side, once your health is gone, many of those retirement dreams may go away with your health. Especially if you want to do epic hiking, biking, etc. Also, if you don’t adjust your portfolio allocation and build different time horizon tranches when you retire then his point about market reversal can also come trie and send you back into the workforce.

A minute and a half video where the only argument is “whatever you’re saving is not enough because you’ll have medical bills that you won’t be able to afford”??

Come on, aren’t we supposed to be using data and reasoning to come to conclusions?

like

Cramer is all talk … bs.

The only point he’s making in the video is that people need more than they think to retire. Actually don’t think many here disagree with that but he’s stretching it to say that no one can save enough to early retire, and that’s just not true.

I got a job offer for what seems to be a great company but I’m not sure if I would have the same life balance. I started interviewing as a way to see my worth in the industry. My current role is at a small company, and I’m not sure how I could grow within the role because Im not advancing my skill, I just do the same thing every day at a lower level. I like my current role because it’s flexible and I’m paid well for not doing very much work. Should I switch to a more rigorous job?

Would it be a faux pas to ask a recruiter to connect me with a recruiter for another area? Applied for a tax role and was turned down in favor of an internal candidate, but told to reach out if I found something I was interested in. I'm very interested in some data science roles, but wondering if the request would make me look undesirable. Ideally, I do want to pivot to data science.

Term life insurance question - I added the AICPA annual term policy last year. I've noticed personal finance media seems to push 10-20 year term and not discuss annual.

It was considerable cheaper up front and more at the end than 10yr per the fee schedule. If all goes according to plan I'll be at or close to FI within 5-7 years so not sure that I'd keep the full amount past then and would miss the benefit of the cheaper years at the end. Am I missing other risks of not doing 10+ term?

Hello, I am hoping to find some information about franchising:
1. Any good and reliable educational resources? (Some "reputable" resources seem to provide wrong info if my research is right, e.g., UPS stores - many owners seem to say it is rather risky, but ranked high by some entrpreneurship sources)
2. Thoughts on profitable franchises based on low risk appetite and 400k'ish investment.
3. Are franchising consultants on LinkedIn of any help?
4. Real experiences?
Thanks a ton for any advice.

I just had dinner with some old friends and they are about to retire early. Part of their plan is to downsize their home, get a small condo and travel for 9-10 months a year. Does this seem crazy?
