Thoughts about Cognizant as a firm? What is their reputation as a place to work?

Doesn’t have the brand equity, margins, or overhead of the big4. Does have decent leadership in the consulting space, usually with deep industry expertise. I like that our consulting group is focused on advisory work, so projects tend to be smaller and shorter, and don’t typically include implementation work. I’m about 6 months in and not unhappy with the decision to move over. Culture is a little bit of a learning curve, but in general I’ve found people to be warm and respectful. In general business is strong. Cognizant is starving for big4 level talent and will pay a premium for it. Like any big company, your mileage will vary by group. I’d be open to interviews, meet people and decide for yourself.

Why would you consider them?

Very strong Salesforce practice. Lots of projects ongoing and in the pipeline so you can choose what you want to do.

Chaotic, no organization, Wild West, you can make your own way and do what ever you want to build your project, but the lack of organization makes it difficult to get anything done. Also it a bit of and good ole boy network, and very hierarchical. Oh and lots and lots of red tape coming from India. For example: I need to get travel approval form a Sr leader in order to book travel, you know cause we all have time to fill out a form, have them approve it, save it to a pdf, and post it to my expense report every week. I like to do that while I travel every week for a project in full swing. 😏

This is pretty much every consulting firm. I agree the travel approval BS is an inconvenience, but it literally takes under a minute to do. In my experience Concur is waaaay faster to use than the rinky dink systems I’ve had to use at big4 and boutiques.

I learned this week our laptops performance speed is reduced by half when not plugged in. When I called about frequent hangs and crashes I was recommended to keep the laptops plugged in to the power for better performance. Truth be told, last few days have been so much better. But, #CanWeGetMacs instead?
