How do I become better at strategic thinking ? What else can I be doing ?

Here's what I have been doing
1. Reading books - the usual ones that come up on Google search
2. Reading past annual reports/investor reports to see how strategy played out

Seeing all these “got laid off” posts and I’m honestly surprised. Which firms are laying people off? Thought every firm had staff shortages.

What firms have the least hours? Are there any firms (preferably in South Florida) where the norm where busy season almost never goes over 50 hours a week and the rest is generally 40 hours most of the time?

I kinda like being able to switch clients every few months or weeks and every industry job I look into just seems so boring.

So my client hires a management specialist to prepare their stock option comp calc and FS disclosures. We do testing over new adds, tie out inputs to their Black Scholes for new grants and do a general completeness check on the comp calc, and have eval'd mgmt spec as competent. How much recalc should I do over the calc itself? Should we get an audit spec to opine on the mgmt spec's work, or is that overkill?

Advice on how to determine where to pivot your career after public accounting? I’m only in my first year, but with this being my only professional experience, I’m finding it really difficult to determine what I want to do with my career and what my next steps should be. I’d like to stay until at least senior, but I want to start thinking about my next position as well. Is it a slow-trickle of determining what you like/what’s good for you? Or was it more of an overnight-lightbulb kind of moment?
