Thoughts about pay transparency? Other countries make salaries visible to everyone, but it seems to an impossible idea in the States (at least in the private sector).

Try h1bdata.info Companies must petition for any h1b visa with labor department and it’s all public. Downside is that it’s only those who sponsor foreigners and they may be paid lower. Still, may be better than self reported pay!


They can’t do anything about you sharing salary data. Firms should do a better job sharing ranges for positions and progression, but you are looking for trouble to share comp levels of individuals. There are a lot of people that don’t understand that this is an industry filled with high performers who are used to being above average. If the average person is in the top 5-10% normally, there will be people very upset given their relative performance.
