Thoughts about portfolio school grads? Circus, Miami, Brandcenter?

Brandcenter is legit. There's a reason that droga and WK hire a batch every year.

like

BC alum here: highly recommend. It's expensive AF, but it pays off when 200+ recruiters show up to recruit 100 students. Job placement rate is excellent and it's a tight knit group of alums all over the place who are eager to network with you.

like

With MAS the talent can really depend on the branch they went to and the internships they got. There's a lot of brillant grads but also a lot of rich kids with big egos and no work ethic.

like

If you can get into Brandcenter, go to Brandcenter. It's the most competitive for a reason and the network is crazy.

One of my coworkers is from Brandcenter and they're fantastic.

Wouldn't be here without MAS

Several colleagues went to brandcenter, all great.

Circus

like

Did Circus. You get out what you put in. The department leaders are amazing.

like

MAS is legit, but you'll only get out of it what you put in. Work harder than you think possible and you'll come out with great skills. Just do the minimum and you'll only come out in debt.

like

Circus grad here and I'd do it all over again if I had to.

like

Miami Ad School has a solid network around the world. Haven't been to a single agency where I didn't meet someone that graduated from MAS.

like

Circus if you're a self starter. Miami Ad if you need structure. Can't go wrong with either.

like

MAS and VCU tied for first with Creative Circus a distant second. MAS better at innovative thinking and press-worthy personal projects, VCU much better at craft and solid strategic thinking

like

MAS NYC was a good experience for me. But like others have said, only those who were serious and applied themselves actually landed careers. Half our cohort flamed out early due to flakiness, lack of dedication or just plain stupidity.

like

VCU is better if you want a more disciplined, rigid system that has less freedom than MAS but a very consistent end product

like

I have friends who are graduates from both Miami Ad School and Brandcenter. Highly recommend both based on what you get out of it. That being said, if you are already at a large agency and are disciplined, you are able to get a similar education from the people around you. Brandcenter recommends you don't work during the school year so if you're not keen on taking loans, bug the people around you for advice, lend a hand on odd jobs and weasel your way into the department you want to be in. Brandcenter/MAS will give you a strong network of people your level that will advocate for your next hire

I'd stay away from Chicago Portfolio School. Not worth your money. There's no real admissions criteria, so kids that come out of there are hit or miss in terms of basic writing and art skills.

If I may defend Chicago Portfolio School. The term was short but we got put through the ringer. For some students it's their only option due to convenience, location, and affordability. Like most things you get out what you put in. The only complaint I have from my time there is that some instructors don't set their course up for students to get a book worthy campaign but at the end of the day it was on us to get shit done. I was lucky enough to come out of it with two internship offers at some good agencies and one invite for interview and I've been out less than a year. I'm not the best student either. I just worked my ass off and made the best of it.

Wanted to share a revelation with my fellow high-stress fishies. I used to take work so seriously that I’d toil late hours into the night and miss out on valuable time living life. I almost took medical leave my health was deteriorating from stress! Now that I have a spouse in medicine, I hear about his work with pediatric cancer patients every day and it REALLY puts things into perspective. Just a reminder to show up, do good, and don’t sweat the small stuff. We aren’t that important 😉

Hey moms, Any ideas for an impromptu last minute 2-4 day trip from NYC that we can take with our 2-month old and parents? Didn’t plan anything under the assumption that he’d be too young, but he was great during our recent road trip to Philly! Desperate to get out but I’m sure everything’s booked for the Fourth of July holiday! Doesn’t even have to be anything fancy ! Just need to get out for a change of scenery! Any recommendations would be much appreciated!

Just started at a Family Law firm and am low on work (came from another state so didn't bring my clients with me). It has been a while since I started fresh. I make a decent base salary but I need those billable hours to make more. How long does it take to be busy again!? I've joined an expanding firm and the lead attorney is helping me by giving me tasks to do. Just not as busy as I'm used to (this will be my 3rd week). Just need a pep talk I think 😊

Applied for an SM position at pwc and interviewers mentioned that it is for an SM position as well. But the offer came out as M. Recruiter said it is just a title and doesn’t have any implications but more I look, it does look like an downgrade. Is this common? I am currently an SM and it is in tech consulting area.

Today was my last day at the client site. According to my client, "everyone deserves a TV show exit," so he played the song "closing time" as I left the office. This should be industry standard.

Where are you shopping for clothes for return to office? Our firm’s dress code has not changed from what it was pre-COVID and I’m finding that many stores no longer carry work-appropriate attire. Help?! For reference, our official policy is business professional, but people tend to dress it down a bit to semi-business casual.
