You’ll burn bridges if you quit in March. I don’t get why it’s so hard for 23 year olds to honor the 2 year commitment they signed up for
Why would you forego 9 months accrued bonus? That’s dumb just coast through your final months
Those glorious bridges at HSBC. You made it from an u likely place to be going to a MF, where your life may very well be getting much worse. Treat yourself and take the longer vacation. Don’t listen to the sheep that have been seduced into thinking free time is valuable.
Isn’t there a more logical way of thinking about this?whats your bonus expected to be—is two months free time worth that to you or no? Do you have actual plans that you wouldn’t be able to do with less than a month?
Look. If you’re going to work for a mega fund, in five years you won’t be thinking “gee, I really wish I had that 100k before I made the move”. However, you may very well be thinking “gee, I haven’t had time to travel in years. I wish I had explored more when I was 24 and had the option to take two months to see places of the world I may never have another opportunity to explore in my young life.” Perspective. I’ll take some extra time to travel with a clear head than a fancy watch and a third of b school.
^Agree w/ Lazard 1. Yes you’re giving up some money but you also have the chance to create lasting memories. I’d travel.
Check the terms of your signing bonus, because you may be obligated to pay that back if you leave early. That said, some firms will let you keep it if you notify them that you’re leaving by a certain date.
Also could be worth seeing if you can push back your start date by a couple weeks so you can get the best of both
Or maybe just suck it up
Take the dolla... you didn't go sleepless nights for nothing, your next vacay will be better
I think associate three sounds like he wants to run a DCF on the expected payout and put together a slide deck illustrating potential ways to deploy capital. This is exactly why I would take the vacation.
Those extra 2 months though will cost you about $100k
