Right now: hard. Every La agency has had layoffs and there are more people looking for jobs than open positions. Rough out here
I think you’ll have a slightly easier time than doing the reverse, mostly because you will get more in LA for your money. Does your company have an office in LA? Talk to your managers and they might be able to move you. If not, in general, the cost of living in LA is cheaper than New York in terms of housing, etc. Just make sure you invest in a car and be absolutely certain you have parking at your place. Parking wars in LA are serious.
In regard to jobs, it is rough right now. A lot of agencies are losing clients and layoffs have been frequent. Reach out to recruiters on LinkedIn and see if you can get your resume some visibility.
It’s a good time for agencies from other parts of the country go fishing for talent. There are lots of super skilled people without jobs right now. Time to shift the quality of work across the whole country.
It will be awesome to have other strong advertising cities around US.
Try Rga LA, I heard from a friend that they are hiring
NY is going through the same layoffs
I did he reverse, LA to NYC and I couldn’t be happier. I get paid more and I’m managing my cost of living so that it’s nothing I wouldn’t be paying out in CA. Also feels like I’ve been thrown job opportunities on linked in every day..
Miss the weather though
100% do not move unless you have something lined up to help with the cost.
Just moved to LA from Chicago after looking at opportunities in NYC and LA. Decided LA was better lifestyle-wise, but it took me 3 months to find a decent job and I had to invest in a car (currently living in the valley). Have lived in NY before, and I think the industry is stronger there. BUT if you’re looking for a lifestyle change, LA all the way. Just know you won’t find jobs on LinkedIn, it’s all about networking.
Just moved from NYC to LA and I love it! Transferred offices so I can’t speak to the job hunt but if you need movers, use CA NY Express. They only do CA to NY and vice versa moves so it was super affordable and went so smoothly!
Same SMS1, I moved from LA to NYC. I was able to find work easily and get paid much much more to do it. Work here and retire West.
I feel like quality of life here in LA directly corresponds to how long your commute is. I snagged a job with a 10 minute commute and life couldn't be better... YMMV. The pace of life out here is just much more chill in general. Get an office near the beach and you'll really feel it
Yeah I’ve lived in NY pretty much my whole life so I’m ready for a lifestyle change. Want to see what LA life is like. I’ve found that it’s quite easy to get an agency job here.
Get ready for amazing weather and shitty shitty traffic.
