Pros: You will get lots of good reps with decent work/life and pay Cons: Depending on firm you might just be a deal monkey and a COG in the PE strategy. Good questions to find out: When is the PE firm looking to exit? Who are the expected buyers of the platform (strategic/PE)? How broad is your role? You want to work on all aspects of the deal, not just one part I.e modeling. Do some digging on the specific industry to see what others are doing in the industry. Is the PE firm the only one partaking in the role up? Or is there a race going on and deals are extremely competitive? Lots to look at that can give you an idea of what the role may be like.

Advice to young lawyers. Read a book. I saw the thread about savings and many young lawyers (20s and 30s) don’t know how to open up a brokerage account or invest in their 401k. I know they don’t teach personal finance in school (though they should!), but my advice is that you should go to your local library and read a book about the subject. You have the skills necessary but you must invest in yourself. No one will look out for you.

I have been unhappy about my current job for a bit now, been at the company for almost 10 years, and have started looking for a new job. I have a solid job offer on the table, but a newer PE group just reached out and are looking for a high level either VP or Director of retail sales (my specialty). I am more interested in this private equity group as I would get to build a whole team and really make a retail strategy but they are newer so I am unsure the stability. Thoughts on working for a PE?
