The fact that allbuildingsmatter is trending on Twitter says something about the discourse in the country. We have a younger generation completely disconnected from the reality of 9/11; it’s just something they learned about in school. Using a terror attack on your country, using the deaths of your fellow countryman, to tease a social movement is the epitome of division. I’m a veteran and liberal, but extremism - right or left - is extremely disconcerting.

I came from a family where my parents like boys over girls. There was a period of time I wished that I was a boy so that I can get more attention from them. I used to hate myself for being a female and hated others for being sensitive, emotional and vulnerable (stereotype female traits). Now as I grow up, had good education and see the world, I realized how ridiculous my thoughts were yet still, many times I found myself unconsciously admire males and belittle females (shamefully admit). Advice?

I was having a conversation with a good friend I went to law school with. We both have been in private practice for 30+ years. We were discussing how so much energy was putting into getting into a good law school, setting up our own practices, building our law firms etc. but little to none in how to wind up our own careers and retire.I was wondering if anybody on this forum has actually retired and how life looks like after the rigorous practice of law. Do you feel a loss of purpose? Identity?Does doing volunteer work fill that void?

From what I’ve seen, it appears that Asian-Americans (born and raised in the US)
have been more empathic and supportive of Black people and the movement right now vs. Asians from Asia in the US. Anyone seeing something similar? If so, why is that? Less exposure to diversity?

I have a typical Spanish name with two surnames and a composed given name (e.g. JoseLuis PerezLopez) and for my entire career spanning multiple non-Spanish speaking countries, people have just been truncating it for my work emails, etc, with no input from me (think jose.perez@company.com).

Today the HR person at my next job actually bothered to ask me what names to use, which is a tiny thing but it honestly made my morning. Here’s to my non-anglo standard named homies ❤️
