In some markets, most judges actually prefer someone with a little work experience! If federal, make an account with OSCAR. Most federal judges accept applications through there and require the same things (cover letter, resume, writing sample, transcripts, letters of rec). As for state level clerkships, I honestly have no clue. At the very least, I think you can definitely call a judges chambers and inquire

In my state a lot of clerks actually practice while clerking, and judges prefer experienced clerks. It all depends on what kind of clerkship you want and what the judge wants in a clerk.

I wouldn’t personally care to be a clerk these days, but an adjunct professor of mine in law school back in 2004 ended up clerking at SCOTUS.

Do it! Oscar is a great resource. I also reached out to my law schools clerkship office. They didn’t have any issue with me asking for help to send out my apps although I graduated a couple years ago.

I sent the materials to the court’s HR (federal court, judge didn’t use OSCAR) department, got an interview. But I didn’t get the job, I think the judge already made up her mind before the interview though.

Hi y’all. So I haven’t technically onboarded for my firm yet, I’m suppose to start in 3 weeks. One of the projects I’m going to be put on requested to have a little interview with people of the team so I had mine today. The “interviewer” didn’t really seem to think I was qualified for this project at the end of the conversation (agree to disagree with him on that). Regardless, am I in trouble for not fitting his criteria/selling myself enough…kinda worried on my manager’s response….

Can I jump firms without interviewing in this market? S3 with 3 years FDD experience... not really interested in more than 1 conversation to get to to know the team. To me it's not worth the stress to go through a full interview process but if I received a competitive offer quickly, then I would seriously consider switching.

Currently an SC at EY with an offer at Deloitte Consulting as an SC. I have 4 years of experience and the base pay would be 30% more. If I stay I can get promoted to manager in a year if I leave that may be extended by 2 more years. Deloitte SC take around 4 years to get there vs EYs 2 and everyone I talk to says this is a promotion even if it has the same title. Is it worth it to leave?
