Thoughts on changing jobs heading into a recession? An interesting opportunity has come up (more senior, better pay, good team) but layoff fears (last in first out) is coloring my decision making.

Given the outbreak, are places actually going to be hiring right now? Recently laid off from 9-5 and my freelance is starting to fizzle.

My account partner is doing a terrible job and will be getting fired—timeline TBD. Given we are living in a pandemic, I want to give them a heads up to start job hunting. How inappropriate is that? How could I do it?

Working at a company and they can’t seem to hold on to their female, black and people of color employees. I blinked and 3 of the people who were in my onboarding class were either fired or they left. When you say your salary jumped __x, how is that exactly calculated?

Mine was $16k (minimum wage before joining corporate) > $40k (contractor total before getting laid off) > $150k (current FT)?

Is that a 260% jump or 2.6x from $16k to $40k?
And a 375% jump or 3.75x from $40k to $150k?

Or do I calculate it by hourly rate?

Does anyone think it’s weird that my firm is bending over backwards to try to keep a first year staff from leaving the firm after she was rated a 2 this year. But now she’s trying to leave and they keep trying to push her to stay saying she can be a partner in 8-9 years and laying it all out in detail. The issue is they laid off other staff (all but her) so maybe that’s it? Find it very odd.

I’m sad that instead of showing that there are no differences between human beings, we are advocating for races (what I understand it is very necessary). Just afraid that will create more division.
