I am looking at masters programs and need some advice as what to get my masters in. How many of you have a "side hustle" in addition to your full-time job? I.e. consulting, writing, designing, etc. I'm curious how much more income it brings you annually and if you think it's worth it in relation to the extra time you'd have if you weren't doing it? I'm trying to weigh the pros and cons of taking on a consulting gig that would be 7-10 hours a week, and about $22-25k a year, paid out on a monthly retainer.

I'm a renter in a privately owned condo in Florida with an HOA. Long story short, can I get out of lease due to renters right to quiet enjoyment violated and not being disclosed of project when we signed the lease? There's so much detail that goes into this but I don't have room to write it so ask away and give me your thoughts. People have been in several times, including 1 time emptied our closet to put holes in wall and have not patched it up (1 month). There are other issues too.

Does anyone else feel like having kids is the only acceptable reason to not be in the office 24/7? If I choose not to have children, do I not have any valid reason to have a life outside work?

If you could change just one small detail about big law but had to leave the major points (e.g. hours, pay, prestige) in place, what would you change?

I am a new attorney (one year being barred) and I have no confidence when it comes to taking deposition, mainly because English is not my first language. I was taking a deposition last week and the Corp was kind of making fun of me especially when he asked me “what I am asking is a request or demand” and again “what I am asking is a question or an order” I was stunned and didn’t know what to say!
I just need advise from all experienced attorneys how can I improve my deposition taking skills?

What’s the rule of thumb for what realization rate a junior/mid level associate should be attaining?

Thoughts from seniors/partners would be appreciated. I'm the senior in my team & have a junior that is actively pushing people out of the team to better position themselves. The junior's now convinced 2 associates to leave in just as many months and is strongly pushing another out (admitted to convincing them that the team/partner is toxic, PE is not for them, even making referrals to other firms). Should I say something to the partner? What can actually be done, if anything?

Do other IP lit associates have to do deep dives into technical stuff that is in the weeds of the disputed technology or does the firm hire experts to handle/help with that?

How do I become on-par with my big law peers in terms of skill level?
c/o 2019 EC/VC. got rejected after a screener today, and the feedback: I didn't seem to have the drafting skill set expected of a rising 3Y associate. This was on point because 1) Left biglaw to do ECVC at boutique, so only been a year, 2) more importantly, at my firm the partners mostly handle the drafting of key docs. For reasons, I really want to get back into biglaw. How do I train myself for the required skillsets?

Why hasn’t biglaw made the transition to state of the art technology yet? Like MacBooks, simultaneous document collaboration technology, mobile friendly document editing software, and just generally, new, fast software that works and doesn’t crash. Why are biglaw firms stuck on these ancient tech stacks that cost them millions to maintain and are so detrimental to associate efficiency?

No matter how many hours I bill, I always feel like I’m failing in some way. Not organized enough, not efficient enough, not knowledgeable enough, always scrambling to keep up, never feeling like I have everything under control, always thinking about that day I wasted a couple hours and could’ve gotten more done if I’d just tried a little harder... I thought that feeling would go away as I got more senior, but it hasn’t. Is this a common feeling among other associates? And does it ever go away?

A junior in M&A and not feeling that I’m developing any substantive skills. I noticed that some juniors are allowed to do more drafting. How would I go about doing this?

How do I request vacation time as a junior associate? I’m hoping to go on a 7-10 day vacation at the end of August

Just started a few weeks ago. Is it weird if the people you work with don’t ask you anything about yourself or are generally aloof? Several of the people in my group don’t even get my name right. I get I’m brand new, but I just find that odd. Even when I worked in fast food people called me by my right name. When the group has had lunches, they mostly talk about affluent topics i.e. Rolex collections, test driving teslas, expensive sneakers/restaurants, etc. Is this typical of big law?
