Thoughts on EY FAAS?

Depends on which city and the work. I was in PwCs version. Spent 2 years doing only 606 a little 842 and worked alone (practice was 7ish people). I never was more miserable. Smaller markets are going focus on practice development. The same PowerPoint Decks and you’ll work a lot more independent sans a big project. NYC/CHI/LA. Diff than Cleveland/San Antonio/Charlotte idk if FAAS is in those cities but you get the idea

EY1 why do you love it (or was that sarcasm)?

GT1 - If EY FAAS is anything like that, it sounds horrible haha

Between a type of Isolation that begins to get to you after a year and a Fiancée who worked audit a a regional firm that had managers that mentally degraded you and criticized how long you went to the bathroom and traveling With a director who would be proud to immediately leave to work from her hotel and constant travel writing the same manufacturing company accounting policy we were both so miserable and stressed we called off our marriage the day of and both quit because our careers were killing us. I went back to Audit bc prestige means crap when you are literally alone 85% of the time and in one year from interview to quitting one person is left and on your first day you’re the 2nd most senior person because everyone quit in the month preceding. I know you were joking but anyone that has a job that ruins your relationships or would wish you get hit by a car on Friday night rather than go in Monday. Quit tomorrow. Forget reputation. Help yourself.

But in hindsight I was on some great audit teams I loved like family and knew lots who loved CMAAS in NYC/SF/CHI. Circumstances matter.

There’s great and shitting jobs and people in this field.

Mental Health is still a joke in this field. There were days in audit I loved going to work. CMAAS not for me. The wellness assessment I always got like 5 or 0. The number under 40 in large rooms was always high and the suggestion was a water bottle or journal post. Those questions were sometimes verbatim from real major depression tests. Those are real signs of not I work a lot depression but suicidal depression and it was a joke if you scored low. Those people should have been given a suggestion of a therapist not think a happy thought.

That’s my soap box on the joke some firms put towards it. You’re clapping when someone is answering a straight from a textbook question saying they no longer enjoy things they used to and can’t sleep. Those are suicidal signs. I don’t know if they still do the wellness test but if they do and someone tells you they are in the 20s or lower. Seriously ask them if they are ok not the “hows it going” kind but “are you really ok” maybe the firms should push at the end go talk to someone. This is I hate my job this is I hate my life.

But some firms/teams/ projects are great. Wasn’t for me

like

Damn...sorry that happened to you. Sounds horrible. Definitely would not like working in the small teams and the culture sounds horrid

Have virtual interviews tomorrow and Friday (both with same company) - I know 150% if I got an offer, I would not accept. Had a ton of coaching meetings this week regarding a different offer I’ve been considering and I don’t want to leave my current place of work. Cancel tomorrow and Friday interviews or no cancel and potentially get an offer and decline? How do you not care / stress way too much about your job? I am a mom and stressed out most workday evenings thinking about the work / interactions during the day. I have heard TEd talks about compartmentalizing job vs personal life , mindfulness etc , but I don’t change. I could literally leave my job & focus on kids alone & be fine as husband is in a executive position. Yet, it’s my own career focus & my self induced stress and pressure that takes a toll on me. What’s your advice for me?
