I think my career has tanked!
I've been working in SAP Basis Module for the last two years and I hate my job to be honest. Most of my peers have crossed 5 LPA and got promoted while I didn't even come close to 4 LPA. My colleagues and peers are reticent and I feel I'm wasting my time. I tried to switch to another company, but I got rejected, despite being certified in SAP HANA. My company doesn't recognise my work and I work in night shifts which made me depressed. How do I rebound in my career?

Thoughts on Buzzard Point? Would you live there?
Georgetown MBA alum here - had a great time at school and I got to know many part time students that also loved their experience. MSB opened a lot of doors due to both name and rank for me as a full time student and I know the school is continuing to focus on bettering the opportunities and experiences for the evening students. MSB just launched a flex program with some classes splitting time between campus and virtual to better align with evening student schedules - getting to Georgetown in DC traffic can be tough.
Now, if you’re truly looking at this as a way to add 3 letters to your list of accomplishments to ensure you don’t get passed over or lose out on an opportunity because a job description reads “MBA or advanced degree required” then the program you choose doesn’t matter. In that case, I would recommend looking for a program that is convenient — remember this is a multi-year commitment that still requires a lot of on-campus time so extra commuting will be brutal — and minimizes expense. Check with your employer to see what they may cover.
I’d also say that a Hopkins degree is an amazing thing to have on a resume so you can’t go wrong there if, again, this is only about the distinction then the school rank isn’t important.
That said, Georgetown does offer a more substantiated program as it’s been around longer and that means that a lot of the school’s growing pains are behind it. You’ll likely benefit from a wider selection of classes, a more diversified cohort of students and the school’s location in DC which exists at the global intersection of business and policy. This opens the doors to amazing opportunities which leads to very unique opportunities to learn from, hear from, and interact with, some of the world’s leaders in business, policy, philanthropy, innovation, etc. many of whom pay campus a visit while in DC for other matters.
Why do you think you will need it in 10-15 years down the line? In that amount of time your degrees won’t mean that much. Your network, on the other hand can be just as meaningful then.
JHU is a med school. Their business program is in no man’s land
Why not Darden?
Georgetown’s ranking isn’t going to open many doors on its own. If you are doing an MBA for yourself, go with JH if you like it better.
I disagree with consultant 1. Johns Hopkins Carey business school was established in 2007 compared to the century old institutions like Georgetown. However, take a look at U.S News MBA ranking and notice #29 - Arizona state university Carey business school. In 2003 Carey approached Johns Hopkins about opening a business school and Hopkins denied it at the time. So Carey took his 50 million to Arizona and established a business program there. In that short time it was able at one point to be a top 25 business school and still is just as strong. Carey came back in 2007 and JHU accepted his money also putting another 50 million to fund the school. It’s only a matter of time but I foresee Hopkins to climb the rankings. Hopkins does not play around when it comes to ensuring their school quality. I think it’s in a position to pass Georgetown one day. Especially in healthcare MBA related subjects
Newsflash: Every school in the top 25 is serious about their school quality, seeking investments, and wants to climb in their ranking. I would do Darden over any of the schools in DMV
Does Darden do part time/online?
What is your goal?
Depends on your goals. Best recruiting options will come from Georgetown. My experience at GW was underwhelming.
I feel Georgetown’s name (and rank) would take you the farthest, unless something specifically about the other two speak to you, id aim there
I can not speak for Georgetown or GW but recommend UNC’s online program. Understanding of JHU is that it is a good program but can take longer to finish (average over two years).
Not necessarily looking for a career switch. Really looking to get the degree knowing I will need it 10-15 years down the line. I know it’s best to do top 25 if possible, but I’m looking part time and really like the flexibility the program offers and while their business school is young, Johns Hopkins is a great place to have a degree from.
If there is something that draws you to the JHU program, then go for it. That being said, Georgetown is well established and has a great reputation and will probably serve you best in the long run.
Gtown hands down
