Please help!! Having an offer from Cts for 12 lpa(11.5 F) in Kolkata. Another offer from Credit Suisse Pune 13.6 Lpa F. I want to understand whether I will get a project as per my tech stack in CTS. I am in favour of CTS as it's in Kolkata. My YOE - 3.6, Tech -Qlik, Sql. My main concern is proper technical exposure, I am slightly afraid that Credit Suisse might not put me into a technically challenging project Credit Suisse Cognizant

Strategy in TCS hahahahaha
Some negatives to think about:
- when you do travel it will not be in style like at Deloitte. You will stay at embarrassingly shitty hotels and have limited expenses
- the people you work with will be significantly lower caliber. They may have a good education/skills but won’t have a good command of English. This could also be a good thing due to less competition.
- promotions/raises will be slower
Strategy @ TCS cracks me 😂
LOL you all were right!! Interviewed for senior “strategy” role with TCS today. Let’s just say I now understand what everyone was talking about. TCS idea of strategy is IT implementation. Interview with global practice leader was like talking to my cat. Narrow minded and unable to talk outside his swim lane. Absolutely NO vision beyond the next big IT implementation.
Global leader.
Totally laughable.
Will not waste any more time with this bunch.
Thank goodness for forums like this.
Glad you seem to be getting a bump. Is a lateral promotion also possible? E.g. from senior associate / consultant to manager?

At the IPP firms the levels often pay less, so very common to level folks up to meet comp expectations
Pause and think what does strategy in the context of TCS mean ( build a baseline) and now measure against what you hear from TCS. If they talk pie in the sky and are aiming hit vet the plan and see if its smoke and mirrors
Appreciate the thoughtful reply. I’ll do the thinking exercise and post back when I come up for air. So tired of the BS and lip service here at D.
Yes you are. Like what others said, think about the type of “Strategy” you’ll be doing. TCS will never be in there with the big boys or even the smaller companies. You may be doing some discovery work, but ultimately it’ll be implementation body shop work.
Source - I used to work for Infy at a role positioned as “strategy”

I’m at Cognizant in an industry domain, and l will say we do win strategy work that is tech centered, like MDM, Domain Driven Design, Libor solutions...
We often struggle to win against big 4, as there are other Cog groups that primarily provide bodies for hire, so hard to break out of that mold.
The hotel thing is real.... not an issue in lower cost cities, but I’ve stayed at motels and extended stay type places in Silicon Valley to attempt to stay in hotel policy and within too small travel budgets...
Even with the cons, I work with some really smart / good people and am well compensated without a lot of sales pressure
I’d really vet leadership up to the VP levels before making any decisions

Developing an enterprise MDM strategy is strategy 😁... this particular piece of work was for the CDO / and won over McK.
One of the areas we have a lot of strength in, combining process, data, and industry /ops knowledge (was focused initially on a particular lending use case)
OP - I would be more worried about how TCS’s core competency, providing tech bodies for hire, will mix with trying to be a strategy shop. Also, as other people have said, worse hotels, low expense budgets. I’m sure that might also apply to training and other things you may not think about - benefits, HR operations, submitting expenses, etc.

Id proceed with caution. Will depend a lot on your immediate leadership. I’d really feel them out before making any moves
I’d need at least 3 levels up to move into TCS
You do not want to work at TCS.
I’m in this same boat now. Did you end up taking it? How did it end up?
Thank you all for the great feedback. It’ll be my first time actually looking for a new role (D pulled me from MBA before career day and without a case interview because of some specialized skills).
How do I vet the leadership and who can I ask about things like travel budgets, shitty hotels and low-caliber teammates?
Also is there any logic to the idea that if I get a higher role & comp at TCS, it sets a new baseline and I could bounce out in a couple of years to a better role elsewhere? Can I use this opportunity as a career accelerator? Or is it so bad that I would transfer a step DOWN if I tried going somewhere else?
Will it HURT my career or will it simply suck working there for a couple of years?
TCS is a sweatshop don’t think Deloitte is!
