I have an interview for a TPM role that I didn't technically apply to (my resume got passed along). I work in a technical environment but dont have a technical background. Do I actually have a real shot??
How technical are TPM roles? I know how to talk to technical people but not make technical decisions myself. Amazon Project Kuiper.
I've worked at the same engineering firm for 4 years. I'm currently making $161k with only a $750 bonus, but excellent vacation (4 weeks, cash out anytime, rolls over indefinitely), 45 hours a week. I have an interview with a recruiter at Guidehouse this week for a Technical Project Manager role. It seems to be focused in the government space and requires a security clearance. What sort of salary and benefits could I expect for this sort of role at Guidehouse?

I don't know your firm or your bosses, but companies don't give 2 weeks notice when they lay you off usually. I would just give the standard 2 weeks.
Don’t leave you won’t ever be able to look yourself in the mirror. The entire fishbowl community will judge you along with your coworkers for doing so. Joking. Leave and do what’s best for you as it’s been said over 1000000x on this forum.
Now is not the time to worry about your firm. Especially at the associate level. Theyll figure it out after you go. Do whats best for you
haha I’m a senior - guess I’ve never updated, which definitely makes it a bit more stressful for the team but agreed !
I stressed about leaving public and put it off for like a year because I kept thinking I’d be letting my team down and they’d be devastated. Turns out no one really cared. Do what’s best for you
Agree. No one will care. If someone cares about you, he or she will be happy for you because you deserve better.
they will get rid of you and replace you without notice if they felt you didn't fit the team so you should do what's best for you. if you tell then ahead of time be ready to leave ahead of time just incase. not all but some people will change how they act towards you soon as they hear you're quitting. hopefully you have good people on your team
or is it silly to ever give 2 weeks notice before the 2 weeks
Most people won't mind, and the coworkers, that actually support you and are good people, will be happy for you. Partners don't like it if people leave, but they know it's the nature of public accounting.
Do what's best for you. The firm won't hesitate to replace you if it's in the best interest of their bottom line. It's OK for you to do the same.
Tough too because I’m not scheduled much on it until June but it’s been a WIP. If I could get more than 2 weeks would it make sense to tell my team and schedulers before the 2 weeks so that I could get more time on this client to help close things out???
Yes - I left a messy audit client and gave my partner over a month’s notice so that everything could be transitioned smoothly. If you have the ability to give more notice and also have a good relationship with your team there’s no harm in giving more than 2 weeks notice. But the relationship is important - as soon as I had another offer HR wanted me to start the offboarding process ASAP and I needed the partner to get involved

Agree with kpmg1-do what’s best for you and in line with standard industry practice. They wouldn’t give it a second thought if they wanted to replace you. Do the same. It’s business, not your personal life.
