Went from Edelman NY to a 50 person agency that spans across 2 cities. Open to chatting more about this is you’d like! My advice is to ask and reaffirm why this role is crucial to the success of the company, and feel as confident as possible that it’s going to be a really good fit—culture, role, team dynamics, etc.
At a higher level, definitely knowing how much autonomy and growth you’ll be able to have in your role, esp in terms of goals. If there’s any sort of gate keeping, whether it be financial or political, it might be harder to prove your worth or success for the company.
I was at a 50 person agency where one client was 70% of billings so when we lost them due to an acquisition we obviously had huge layoffs ...like 90% of the staff. Eventually worked at another only slight bigger agency that had its own problems but were way more well balanced financially. I’d only be concerned particularly in this market if they’re relying too heavily on one or two big clients or if they specialize in an industry that’s been especially hard hit (events, tourism etc)
Thank you! My exact concerns, but with the current environment so far seems like most of the interviews I’ve had have been pretty open about this and are spreading themselves out.
Is the risk because the agency is small? We have such trouble recruiting people in the US versus Europe to our small agency. interested to hear why size matters.
Concerned about job security in this Covid market, if one or two big clients decided to pull budget, that may put the whole company at risk for lay offs vs a huge agency having a lot more resources.
