Thoughts on “pay by the mile” car insurance like metromile ? Live near NYC, spouse and I both commute to work everyday using public transportation, share one car and only use it on weekends.

I live in Chicago and use Metromile. Pretty nice only paying $35/month. Also don’t care too much about the vehicle though so my plan has a super high deductible. If you’re in a similar situation where you’re planning on just driving your car into the ground over the next 10 years, would definitely recommend.

Reading reviews that in the second year the rate is hikrd

They are very unprofitable so guessing cheap premiums!!

D1 - I’ve done it for 2 years now and my rates actually got reduced after a year so I’m sure it’s just case by case basis

I did it and insurance dropped from $90/mo to $27. I drive about 1-2k miles/yr, so it’s been worth it! I’ve read somewhere too the rates may hike but also seen reviews that they haven’t.

I heard Allstate started a pay by the mile plan. Wondering if anyone has heard about it

Most companies offer an app that tracks your driving behavior and can reward you with discounts. One of the things these apps track is distance driven. Offering actual usage based insurance like metromile is a much bigger deal than it sounds for the traditional insurers and has some huge implementation hurdles.

Hi all, I am early in my career in Tech. 23 years old but very concerned with CA rising housing cost. I’m based out in the Walnut Creek area but understand that houses go 2Million+ in the Bay. Thoughts on getting whole life insurance and taking a loan out against around age 35? Thinking I can leverage an aggressive savings approach this way and use the FHA loan. Any ideas? Pros/Cons to this?

If you work at a small agency in NYC, could you tell me what your monthly health insurance premiums are for families? I'm at a small agency in NYC and the health benefits for a family are almost prohibitively expensive, ~1,500/mo with a high deductible. Would love to know if we're competitive or not and if not, share that info with our HR and bosses.
