Uber figured out a way to make money within the boundaries of the law. Let them make it. And today, with no rides, let them fail too

Why would we penalize companies for doing perfectly legal things?

The misclassification issue comes up all the time in the court system. Meaning, it’s a gray area that is subject to a multi-factor test.
💯 - just because something is legal doesn’t make it right. As a taxpayer, if we are paying unemployment for their employees, they should be paying into the system.

Disagree uber employees should be forced to be classified as FTE, but agree their drivers shouldn't get unemployment

Uber lobbied hard to get unemployment benefits for its independent contractors. It’s a system they didn’t pay into. This, I don’t think, is a liberal way of thinking.
My company was sued for a similar employee classification matter. It became a class action suit that we settled. It’s pretty dumb for the (now) employees because they risk putting the company paying their bills out of business, and since we have to pay OT plus all of these additional costs now, they now make a lower pay rate. In addition, we can monitor each employees’ OT and pretty much setup and manage the projects so they never hit that OT rate.
Our margins actually grew and they are pocketing less. Minus funding the settlement from a cash flows perspective it’s been better for our bottom line.
How about the government just stops regulating private companies so damn much and let two parties who have an agreement just do what they agreed to?

Hope you can find a happy medium.
I also thought self employed individuals had other means, such as receiving a PPP loan, etc?
Could be wrong. So much of that changed every day, and still is.

I have so many opinions about the PPP, but I will refrain.
