Been a rough year, so definitely looking forward to this opportunity. I’ve been on the site and going through preparation and materials. Any advice or suggestions welcomed!

Hi Fishes,
I got offer from persistent with 31lpa.
But most of the compensation they added into skill bonus-1400000. Due to that my basic salary is low- 50k as compared to my cctc basic salary, which is 63k with 19.5lpa.
Is it normally happening with everyone joining to persistent?
Can Persistent increase basic salary component and reduce the skill bouns?
I asked hr to increase my basic, but she mentioned that it’s system generated and standard format, vary cmpny to cmpny.
Plz help me out guys.

How did you get into your area of law? I have been licensed for 5 years and I still don't know where I ultimately want to be. Anyone at or heard of firms that were going with open offices, hoteling, or other alternatives to the traditional “dedicated” office situation, either pre-pandemic or now? My firm is giving one of these some thought and, frankly, they all sound awful, especially any kind of cubicle-type situation. I have worked with clients who were in-house at tech companies who were dealing with this kind of thing (no dedicated office) and it seemed pretty bad.

I know this happens a lot but I still get mildly annoyed when a senior tries to make revisions to your work that don’t actually make sense and the partner eventually just reverts to your original language/wording. Just saw a Facebook short where a woman was saying she made $180k as a first year corporate associate and the comments didn’t believe her. A lot of the comments consisted of “no way, only partners at law firms make that much money!” when she said she was into the $200k zone a few years later.

I don’t really have a point I’m trying to make, I just think the public perception is really interesting compared to what we talk about here. I feel very lucky to be where I am all things considered.

December feels like a country song. Two dogs died on the 1st. A hard rain exposed latent roof damage and collapsed ceiling in two rooms. Stove, fridge and water heater all went out on the same day last week. Yesterday my spouse said they needed a break from the chaos through the holidays and left. Today a positive covid test. And 7 deals trying to close before year end requiring my full attention so none of the aforementioned can get any attention.

Associates, don’t let this become you.

2nd year in big law but 7th year practicing (doing lit at smaller, more regional firms beforehand), and currently doing lit for the most profitable practice group at the firm.
