Why would you waste all that money away and not get a job then leave? If you want time off just give yourself x amount of time before starting the next job
If you are in a place financially to leave a job before finding your next you should do it. I have done it in the past and found it let me have a lot more clarity on the type of opportunity I wanted to go after. Finding the time to research and study the opportunities be easier. Make sure to not freak out and take the first thing too get offered, this is a great chance to be thoughtful on your next move.
Thank you, these are the precise reasons I am doing it
Curious what is stopping you from finding new job while working? You don’t need to perform at the highest level. Just make sure you are doing your part. It can be easily balanced. Otherwise it’s a different problem
My role requires performance at a high level because I am the only resource trained for this type of work. It is too draining to continue and search for a new job. My mental health has been taking a big toll
i’ve done it before. maybe i’m just an anxious person, but it’s stressful after the first month. by the end of the second you are going to want to be wrapping up the search. by the end of the third you should have a start date at your next job. that’s how i would go about it to make sure you don’t fall off the wagon.
Why do you want to do it in the first place? If it is a demanding job, tell your boss that you need more WLB.
What about healthcare? Dependents? Opportunity Cost,401k contribution, pensions if any, mortgages to pay, auto loans, school loans, credit card debt. Have you considered those and are you in a good place?
As ZS mentioned, you can patiently and methodically plan your exit. Good luck and think through. Many people will ask you to jump, but they aren’t jumping with you. Think...
Awesome. However is there any workplace challenges now that is leading you to quit?
Remember, when you already have a job, you have higher negotiating power, so unless there is a major challenge now, I wouldn’t quit. People have provided more inputs, you can best decide. All the very best OP. Hope you find the best place
Go for it
Good opportunity to enjoy some time off but it’s always easier to get a job when you already
have one. Prospective employers are likely to be suspicious that you’ve been fired. On balance, I wouldn’t do it but would instead try to get a job lined up while you’re working and negotiate for a later start date to take some time off between jobs
Make sure you consider insurance when budgeting expenses. Or be willing to pay big if something happens while you don't have insurance.
fwiw, when i did it, i didn’t really have a choice. i agree with the recommendations that you should do as much of your job search prior to quitting your current job.
