Is 120k salary enough to enjoy DC ?

Not sharing salary information will always benefit the employer rather than the employee. However, sharing without context can cause issues, especially with employees who have an inflated sense of their worth.
Ill tend to read my co workers and if they seem like an individual I can have that conversation with at a productive, non-judgemental way- then I’ll do it. Otherwise - no point in trying.
I believe in being more transparent when it comes to personal finance including income/salary
Benefits-
Better idea what you’re worth in the marketplace
Provide knowledge and tips to those who generally are paid less (or leave money on the table in negotiation) ie wage gap...
Talking about saving, investing, etc educates others and build financial literacy
I do it with my "circle of trust" peers.
I share with coworkers when they express interest or say something that I know isn't true. I think transparency around pay is good for ability to negotiate and know when you could do better.
I volunteer it if it is relevant to the conversation, and not because I’m trying to show off (I make less than average for my level/role). I do it because the American culture of salary opacity is poisonous and 100% serves to benefit employers at the expense of workers. It’s one of way of sticking it to the man (while selling out by being in consulting).
I’ll go first, I’ve definitely shared before; it’s something that comes up during informal chats with the coworkers I hang out with
I share but not my actual salary.... :)
Watch The episode about this on Adam Ruins Everything on TBS. it’s on our favor to share so companies love it that we don’t!
It gets awkward when someone comments on how high/low my salary is. Like how do I react to that
Billing rates are published in clients bids.. fairly obvious based on it
That’s generally an average based on some kind of peer group, so not a reflection of your actual salary... fairly obvious
I’d never share to non-coworkers (because it’s tacky) or coworkers (because it creates resentment on the part of whoever is paid less). Exception would be to give a range to someone who isn’t my peer (i.e. a manager saying to an associate, when asked, that manager comp is somewhere north of XYZ).
Only other exception is for firms on a cohort system. At that point who cares, since it’s all known anyways.
Haha yeah we are, wonder if he gets strange looks when discussion salaries with peers and he shoots a number range out
Yes - I’ll be open if someone asks for it
