I work for a series c tech company in Strategy & Ops. I worked with these guys on a pricing strategy engagement recently and was very impressed. Top notch team.

Yes startups hire consultants. Currently at soon to IPO unicorn from big 4

If you like pricing, join. The rest of the "growth strategy" stuff is long tail, not meat of the work.
Have heard good things about SKP but don’t think it would be worth you leaving Bain this early to land at the same comp, significantly more responsibility (without a current commercial platform), and less prestige in the market. Maybe if you’re goal is to exit consulting in 2-3 years, then maybe the move would help land you into a more senior industry position (due to higher level at SKP). That said, could be a risky strategy and probably not worth it in my opinion. It may be worth asking yourself - as a ‘19 grad do you think you’re ready to be a director at a consulting firm? Depending on pre-mba experience, could be the case but worth thinking through if you feel like you’re personally ready for the jump in responsibility or are there other tools you need to add to your toolkit first?
The top boutique in their field. Probably not a bad idea if you really like pricing, but realize you’d be surrounded by other people who are mostly good in that field, not different practices like Bain
Typically it takes 3-4 years post-MBA for someone to make it to the Director role. Obviously, you can still be very successful but if I were in your shoes I'd really want to understand how the firm would help me acclimate to selling work given you'll likely have to begin doing this while also building an internal network and developing pricing and industry expertise (assuming you haven't done a lot of pricing work and don't have an industry concentration already).
Business growth in the US is strong (+15% annually) and WLB is reasonable (hours aren't bad and pre-covid we travelled 20-30%). Client mix is diverse (work with everyone from old school industrials to SIM) though I assume you'd be expected to pick an industry specialization fairly quickly. As others have said almost all of the work is pricing / growth strategy related so also important to know if you're really interested in this.

Hey, just wanted to respond there. They’ve gone ahead and made an offer, and I’m strongly considering it. If you could DM me (your DM isn’t available), would love to pick your ear further!
Op, i know you are at Bain but still, director role offered to someone who was class of 2019??
Are you a case leader now?
Significant level jump but same pay? What levels?
Sounds much lower than MBB. Unless if their partner pay is significant higher, it doesn’t make a lot of sense financially
Imho SKP can't compare to MBB. What are your reasons for considering it?
I agree life isn't just about prestige, but that's not the only metric I was measuring by. I interviewed with them for a role, I can tell you that they don't travel as much as traditional firms (more of a local office culture). SKP is also known for giving more international travel opportunities.
As far as pricing goes, other firms (not even just MBB) will give you more growth, better exit opportunities, and higher financial returns.
But honestly they're not even the best firm in pricing...(not that this is the only rating to consider)
