The nicer your watch, the lower my initial opinion of you, irrespective of age.
People don’t always buy things to impress my dude. Some people enjoy the nicer things in life because they like it. But hey, who am I to try and convince someone who probably shops at Ross.
I’d say they made a poor choice in watches. $6k can get you a very slightly used nice Milgauss which watch enthusiasts would pick any day over a piece that costs more double that (looking at you two tone Rolex fans)
Oh yes! Thanks:) No plans to sell it.
However I’m thinking of selling 2 watches in the next couple months - my AP RO 15450 and most likely my GMT ii LN. Not fully convinced but leaning towards it.
Lot of comments that make it seem like I’m trashing on someone wearing the Rolex... I am considering being the person wearing the Rolex....
Buy it if you like how it looks and feels! Nice watches last and stay in style, so it’s not a terrible idea to get one young if you want one eventually (but definitely don’t borrow money to buy one)
Feel like it’d either be:
1. Non-watch enthusiasts are like “hey cool watch”
2. Watch enthusiasts are like “hey cool kind of pricey watch”
3. Salty people will hate no matter what
So you do you
I have way more questions about my government client driving a 5 series and wearing a patek.
Hahaha yes!!!
Good for them?
Yes. S/he's loaded, but more importantly - why do you care so much?
It is spelled R.O.L.E.X, bud. I even googled to double check.
J/K. 😁
Mom and Dad love them.
If they aren't acting like asses, then no other thought .
Couldn’t care less what kind of watch someone is wearing
$6000 is the equivalent of maxing out a Roth IRA contribution. YoY, assuming 5% compounded interest (conservative returns), in 30 years this will be equal to $25k + in 2050 dollars.
Do you want the watch now or at least $25k in 30 years?
30 years is even a little short sighted. If you give it 40 years it’s 65k. The magic of compounding interest.
For junior folks I get worried. This industry encourages bad decisions and first year associates rocking a rolex or a new M3 are probably making other questionable purchases too. Have to resist bringing up financial independence with them - don't want to be patronizing.
It’s two completely opposing viewpoints. Spending/enjoying money vs having/enjoying money in the future. Both side have good points, stick to the middle.
I’m forecasted to have like 10k a month in retirement and I’m not frugal for shit. If you want to sock it all away more power to you as far as I’m concerned.
Is it not acceptable for someone early in their career to own a nice watch (if that’s what they like) but it’s acceptable for some middle manager type a few more years in? Who even worries about this stuff.
Why do people wear watches? Don’t we check time on the phone now? Or an activity tracker ?
Also, have you driven a sports car? A real kickass sports car? Driving is not the same
I have the rhodium version of this watch and love it. Also maxed retirement accounts, did megaback door and maxed 529. Def don’t care what anyone on here would think of me if they saw me wearing it 😂
I don’t remember exactly I just bought new at full price so probably $5600
Women wear rings that are worth a lot more than that.
Unless you're loaded, what a waste of $6000. I'd rather gift my child $6000 to max an IRA to start a career.
Dying rich is the purpose of life according to Supply Side Jesus. 😂
I wouldn't know it's a rolex, as long as when I ask you what time it is and you give me the answer without looking at your phone, I'm cool with it
My Rolex has 15 years now. Wedding gift from my parents. Wearing every day. Best memory ever. One day my first son will have it. What’s wrong with that?
Or first daughter
Don’t care. If I hired them for a project, I’d figure they’re ready to knock the project out of the park to get that bonus for more
Rghhhh... you Apple wearing consultants get an iWatch every 18 months on average, which costs you close to $800 then pay $120/year on the connectivity plan. That’s $55 a month or over $6,600 down the drain over 10 years. OP will sell his Rolex for 6k in 10 years and buy a 15k watch he will pass along to his/her kids.
Do it for the kids
