Senseless and scary. Violence/crime in ATL has been on a meteoric rise, and this one was particularly chilling — especially because it flies in the face of the conventional wisdom a dog is enough to keep you safe.
I always conceal carry a pistol while in the city. This is the fourth high-profile violent crime in town that has either impacted someone I know or been somewhere I frequent. I’m not rolling the dice on my life.
I appreciate that, I’ll definitely keep it in mind when I’m in town
I found this news troubling to hear as a woman living alone in Atlanta. Often I find myself asking, has crime always been this bad or have I not been paying attention?
I go to the shooting range with my dad when I visit home a few times a year. I recently received my GA concealed carry license and will be regularly going to the shooting range as well as enrolling in a formal firearm training - this was an intention that I had prior to the Piedmont Park incident. In light of this incident, I’m even more motivated to further develop my firearm skills/knowledge.
My hope is to never have to use a firearm for self defense. However, I’d rather own a firearm and never have to use it, than end up in a situation that warrants firearm use and not have/know how to responsibly use it.

FWIW, pre-COVID in Gwinnett, I got mine in under two weeks.
As a woman who lives alone in midtown and has passed by that area multiple times on late weekend nights out, I’m absolutely horrified.
I’m not going to move since my living situation is unchangeable, but the thought of this being a random killing has made me seriously consider getting firearms and training
Me too
Super scary and so sad they killed the poor dog too! But I do think it’s an isolated incident and don’t think the park is unsafe or anything.
I used to live alone in midtown for years and loved it. A couple of years ago my roommate was robbed at gunpoint in front of our apartment around Piedmont park and since then I have been more aware of the crime and I no longer feel comfortable walking around midtown alone, even during the day.
Also saw a man get stabbed and die on the sidewalk in midtown in the middle of the day a couple of months ago while in the office. The crime in ATL is only getting worse and while I’ve never held a gun, I have signed up for shooting lessons and am considering buying a gun for my own protection.
Everybody please pay attention to your surroundings at all times and stay safe!
So heartbreaking. I agree with A1. I conceal carry everywhere because you just can’t take the chance in Atlanta anymore. Crazy that its come to this.

I’m GTFO, tired of the crime.
Where are you going to go?
I don’t think this one was just another iteration of the crime we’ve been seeing. Reading between the lines in all these stories, it sounds like a serial killing. 😣
I really really hope this isn’t true 😖
Rising Star
I imagine there’s a lot which they legally cannot say because it is a pending criminal investigation, and candidly, not sure how ethical it is either for the aggrieved. It’s a tough spot, but I hope they turn up something soon.
