I’m coming back to my former job after 6 months and leaving my current position in one of the most toxic places I have ever been. Never thought I could be harassed in so many ways in such short period. Gladly, I left the door and they’re taking me back. Even though it’s a huge relief, I’m worried about how to explain to my coworkers why I’m back. I’m way too vulnerable to lay out the truth. Anyone here to give me a useful tip on how to handle this?

Does switching to a similar role at another firm typically create a delay for getting promoted? For example, Associate to Senior Associate on my current team almost always takes 2 years on the dot (give or take a month). If after 1 year I switched to a similar role at a competing firm, could I still expect to get promoted after another 1 year, or does switching firms usually cause it to take longer?

How long did it take you in your career to get real bookworthy projects in your portfolio? I’m a Jr early in my career, fighting to get a good FT role, but have been running into places that’ve said the roles are heavy on website copy, emails and other stuff that I’d never put in there. I want to shoot big but want to be realistic. Been stuck freelancing (some good places) since Covid started and trying to break into full time, but am afraid of getting stuck.
My old team got merged into IB and because of my lack of experience i have to start as A1. I really like the work but I hate that i have no control over my agenda (recently had to do calls at my own birthday party and while I was at the hairdresser). Mid-level litigator. I have accepted an offer for a top litigation shop but I am still waiting on conflicts. I have started preparations to move to the new city but no contracts yet. A top corporate shop that I applied to several months ago reached out for an interview. The firm is in a different city than the offer I’ve accepted, but long term I really want to be in the corporate firm’s city. Ultimately I want to go in-house. Take the interview right? Cont.
I had six hours worth of Zoom interviews with an AmLaw100 firm on Monday and Tuesday last week. I haven’t heard back on anything yet - when is “too” long to have not heard back and when should I reach out to their in-house recruiter for some kind of update?
So I screwed up big time and took an associate role in my current job. I absolutely should have pushed for senior, but I was super eager for a new job and to be back near family. I'm about a month into this job, is it crazy for me to start looking around? I know I could be paid a lot more...
