Thoughts on the VC Cornes de Vache? I love everything about it (except the blue hands), but I’m not sure it’s worth the price tag

I assume you're cross shopping the with the Patek 5172 and Lange 1815. The Vacheron in platinum is my grail because I prefer it looks wise to the other two, but I'm sure someone can weigh in on ALS finishing or Patek being Patek. Thankfully you can still get any of the three at close to msrp.

I recently went to a VC boutique and they told me a 6 month wait for the watch… which is odd considering it’s not selling above retail on the grey market

It’s high horology man, none of it is “worth it” in a value sense. It’s “worth” the huge price tag because it’s an amazingly constructed and finished luxury item. If that’s what you’re looking for, that’s what those things cost. I love these, but I can’t see myself ever spending $40+k on a watch when I don’t even spend that on a car. I realize spending $5-10k on a watch is also wasteful, but I guess the degree is what gets me on these super nice ones.
FWIW, if you like that one, personally I prefer both the Patek 5170 (in black though) and the Lange 1815 (also black). They’re extremely similar, but the looks of those other two are just a tad more complete to me. The VC is amazing though, really beautiful.

The 5170 is at a much higher price point and also doesn’t do much for me. I personally love the 1815, and that’s my number one choice currently, I just wanted to get thoughts on the VC which is second place for me. In terms of worth it meant relative to the comparable alternatives… of the ones mentioned it’s by far the cheapest

I was seriously looking at an 1815 Chrono and actually found it didn’t fit my wrists. It has a lip on the bottom that raises it up, and combined with the straight lugs it left a huge gap between my wrist and the strap. I’m 5ft 9 and 200lbs so I’m not exactly tiny. The Cornes de Vache had a different lug profile, fits far more closely to the wrist, and uses a curved strap to further reduce then tolerances. I personally found the Cornes to be much more comfortable and aesthetically pleasing face up. Yet to try the Patek.

Can’t argue with Lange finishing though - it’s the best of the 3.

Highly recommend the 1815 - I have the small seconds wg version in 38.5mm and have found it to be a mesmerizing piece. It’s definitely not a “daily” for me - but I find the Arabic numerals and blue hands make it a bit less dressy than some of its counterparts.

Yep white gold. Probably reflection from desk..

It’s a beautiful watch. I think the movement architecture is less interesting than the Lange, but it’s still a great choice and has a really unique / attractive aesthetic.

Plus you can save a lot if you get it in steel - the value is really there at that point

"Everybody can be a leader" some say... "Leaders are nurtured not born" say others... True.

But... this is also true: "not everybody wants to be a leader" (whether they can or can't be). It is a fairly common practice in organizations with traditional career management structures for people to "be promoted" into leadership roles as the "end steps of the corporate ladder" that was climbed doing technical work. And, unfortunately, this doesn't work all the time
