Month out from trial. I represent one of two codefendants. Other codefendant’s experts have been deposed. Mine are next week. Pl just cancelled them with no explanation. What could the explanation be for why you wouldn’t want to depose a defendant’s experts? The only thing I can think of is they want to try and settle with us or surprise them at trial.

I'm thinking about making the switch from plaintiff's employment law to defense employment law. Anyone who's done both plaintiff and defense work - which side did you like better and why (excluding salary reasons)?

I'm really lost in my career. Started out in ID and hated it, jumped around and made it out of ID to my desired area. Been at my current firm almost a year, but it's totally toxic and I'm likely being pushed out. Trying to make it work and stay here for as long as I have as I've jumped a lot in a short time and frankly I don't want to jump again. I had the chance to go back to ID and work for an old mentor who is incredible and go back to doing what he does (continued in comments)

It may seem obvious, but in my experience partners value trial experience over anything else, so get it however you can. For example, my firm will favor a former prosecutor who has seen the courtroom a lot but has no civil litigation experience (not even a depo) over a seasoned associate who has only second chaired cases with a partner but hasn’t tried a case. Even trying a case and losing gives you credibility at my firm because you still did it.

I would appreciate any advice on how to stay on top of non urgent tasks. As a 2nd year, I’m often tapped to handle tedious tasks that need to get done quickly. Tbh, I like urgent matters.
